5 ․ 18이 본격화 되면서 간호사들은 이동에 어떤 제약이 있었는가? 응급실이나 수술실을 제외하고는 업무의 내용과 범위에 있어서 큰 차이가 없었으며, 환자가 폭증하는 부서로의 파견 근무가 잦았다. 그러나 5 ․ 18이 본격화되면서 대부분의 간호사 들은 시내의 삼엄한 상황과 밀려드는 환자들로 인하여 출 ․ 퇴근이 자유롭지 못했고, 병원 내에 상주하였다. 다만 초기에는 가정적인 사정으로 인해 부득이 엠블란스, 오토바이와 같은 교통수단을 이용하여 왕래하는 경우가 간혹 있었고, 이때 일부 병원에서는 간호사들의 안전을 위하여 신분을 확인케 하는 출입증을 발부하기도 하였다.
