액티브 시니어란 무엇인가? 이 세대들은 고령화 시대의 새로운 소비 계층인 액티브 시니어로 부상해 다양한 여가생활을 즐기며 새로운 소비 파워로 떠오르고 있다. ‘액티브 시니어’란 은퇴 이후에도 소비생활과 여가 생활을 즐기며 사회활동에도 적극적으로 참여하는 50~60대 세대를 지칭(“액티브 시니어 [Active senior]”, n.d.) 하는 말로써 활발한 경제활동을 바탕으로 여러 분야에서 각광받으며 새로운 소비계층으로 부상하고 있다. 액티브 시니어는 기존 시니어와는 다른 가치관과 소비욕구를 가지고 있으며 여유 있는 자산으로 안정적인 경제력과 다양한 소비 경험을 지닌 합리적 소비자이다.
시니어 남성에 대한 체형의 특징을 파악하여 의복을 제작해야 하는 이유는 무엇인가? 젊은 감각을 선호하는 이들에게 디자인 만족도는 높으나, 여전히 몸에 맞지 않는 맞음새 등을 문제점으로 삼고 있다 (Cho, 2014). 특히 우리나라 남성은 연령이 증가할수록 키는 줄어들고 배가 나오는 등 체형이 변하기 때문에 기성복 맞음새의 만족도가 낮은 것으로 나타났는데(Seok & Kim, 2007), 이들이 30~50세를 타깃으로 하는 의복을 착용하게 되면 맞음새에 대한 불만족도가 높으며, 이에 따른 본인에게 적합한 치수 선택 시에도 많은 어려움을 겪을 것으로 예상된다. 의복 착용 시 체형 변화는 맞음새 만족도에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인이며, 체형의 변화로 인해 의복의 치수 적합성이 떨어지는 경우가 많음에도 불구하고 시니어 체형을 고려한 연구는 부족한 상황이다.
