Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of appearance stress and appearance management behavior on job-seeking stress among male university students. Methods: The participants of this cross-sectional and descriptive study were 158 male students attending a university in K Province who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The survey period was from September 19th to November 9th, 2017. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses with the SPSS statistics 23 program. Results: Job-seeking stress showed significant differences according to BMI (F=2.55, p=.042) and pocket money (F=3.08, p=.049). The results of the regression analysis showed that grade (${\beta}=8.93$, p=.008), pocket money (${\beta}=-5.11$, p=.029), appearance stress (${\beta}=.52$, p<.001), and appearance management behavior (${\beta}=.25$, p=.001) were significant factors affecting jog search stress. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that variables such as grade, pocket money, appearance stress, and appearance management behavior significantly explain job-seeking stress among male students in college. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program to reduce job-seeking stress for senior male students who are preparing for employment before graduation. In addition, when organizing a program to reduce job-seeking for male university students, it is necessary to help them have a more positive evaluation of their appearance and pursue proper appearance management behaviors.

이에 본 연구는 국내 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 남자대학생을 대상으로 외모 스트레스, 외모관리행동, 취업 스트레스 정도를 파악하고, 외모 스트레스와 외모관리행동이 취업 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통하여 남자대학생의 취업 스트레스에 있어서 외모에 대한 인식과 행동이 미치는 영향을 확인함으로써 취업 스트레스를 완화하는 중재 전략의 자료로 활용하고자 한다.
제안 방법
대상자의 일반적 특성을 기술하기 위해 연령, 학년, 전공, 종교, 용돈, 신장, 체중, 체질량지수를 포함하였다. 연령은 만 나이로 기입하도록 하였고, 학년은 1, 2, 3, 4학년으로 구분 하였 으며 전공은 자연/공학계열, 인문/사회계열, 예체능계열, 의학보건/사범계열로 구분하였다.
연구자들이 직접 교내에서 대상자들을 만나 연구의 목적과 방법을 설명하였고 수집된 자료는 익명으로 연구목적으로만 사용될 것이며 연구 참여의 철회 의사가 있을 때에는 언제든지 중단할 수 있음을 알렸다. 이후 연구자는 신분을 밝힌 동의서를 나누어 주었고 연구 참여에 서면으로 동의한 대상자에게 구조화된 설문지를 배포하여 스스로 응답하게 한 후 회수하였다. 대상자들이 설문지에 응답하는데 소요되는 시간은 평균 10~15분이었고 설문지 작성이 완료된 후에는 소정의 답례품을 제공하였다.
대상 데이터
본 연구는 편의추출에 의해 K도 소재 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 만 19세 이상의 남자대학생을 대상으로 하였다. 표본 크기는 G*Power 3.
15, 예측 변수 5개로 설정하여 다중회귀분석을 실시할 때 최소 138명이 요구되었다. 본 연구에서는 탈락을 고려하여 165명을 모집하였고 응답이 불성실한 7부를 제외한 총 158명의 자료가 분석에 이용되었다.
데이터처리
• 대상자의 일반적 특성에 따른 외모 스트레스, 외모관리행동, 취업 스트레스 차이는 ANOVA와 Scheffé test를 이용하여 분석하였다.
• 외모 스트레스, 외모관리행동, 취업 스트레스 간의 상관관계는 Pearson’s correlation coefficient를 이용하여 분석하였다.

이론/모형
외모 스트레스는 자신의 외모에 대한 부정적인 인식으로 겪게 되는 스트레스로[19] 본 연구에서는 Yang [20]이 개발한 외모 스트레스 측정도구를 사용하였다. 이 도구는 총 14문항으로 ‘전혀 그렇지 않다’ 1점에서 ‘항상 그렇다’ 5점까지의 5점 Likert 척도로 측정하여 최저 14점에서 최고 70점까지 나타내며 총점이 높을수록 외모 스트레스가 높음을 의미한다.
외모관리행동은 자신의 외모를 가꾸기 위한 행동으로서 본 연구에서는 Ahn [21]이 개발한 외모관리행동 측정도구를 사용하였다. 이 도구는 헤어관리, 피부관리, 체형관리, 패션관리, 미용성형관리의 5개 하위요인별 5문항의 총 25문항으로 구성 되어 있다.
취업 스트레스는 취업과 관련된 문제로 겪는 신체적, 정신적 스트레스로[22] 본 연구에서는 Hwang [23]이 개발한 취업 스트레스 측정도구를 Kim [24]이 수정 ‧ 보완한 도구를 사용 하 였다. 이 도구는 성격 스트레스 6문항, 학업 스트레스 4문항, 가족환경 스트레스 5문항, 학교환경 스트레스 4문항, 취업불안 스트레스 3문항의 총 22문항으로 구성되어 있다.
성능/효과
본 연구에서 외모 스트레스가 높을수록 취업 스트레스가 높았고, 외모관리행동이 높을수록 취업 스트레스가 높았다. 최근 대졸자의 취업률이 60%대로 지속적으로 감소하고 있고 이에 따라 대학생의 취업에 대한 불안과 걱정은 고조되고 취업 준비를 위한 노력은 더욱 심화되는 상황에서 취업을 위한 면접의 중요성 또한 부각되고 있다.
본 연구는 남자대학생의 외모 스트레스와 외모관리행동이 취업 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 수행되었다. 연구 결과, 학년이 높고, 용돈이 적으며, 외모 스트레스가 높을수록, 외모관리행동을 많이 할수록 취업 스트레스가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 취업을 앞둔 4학년과 경제 형편이 어려운 남자 대학생 집단을 대상으로 취업 스트레스를 줄이고 취업을 준비할 수 있는 프로그램 개발이 필요하며, 남자대학생 대상으로 취업 스트레스를 줄이는 프로그램 구성에 있어서 자신의 외모에 대한 긍정적인 평가를 높이고, 적절한 외모관리행동을 추구할 수 있는 내용을 고려할 필요가 있겠다.
후속연구
또한 외모 스트레스, 외모관리행동, 그리고 취업 스트레스 간의 인과관계를 설명하기에는 제한이 있으므로 추후에는 종단 연구를 통하여 이들 변수들의 인과관계를 살펴보는 것이 필요할 것이다. 또한 성적이나 가정의 경제상태 등 선행연구에서 취업 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 다양한 요인을 포함하지 않아[23] 연구결과의 해석에 제한이 있으므로 향후에는 남자 대학생을 대상으로 이러한 요인이 취업 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 면밀히 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 그러나 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 남자대학생들의 외모 스트레스와 외모관리행동을 살펴보고 취업 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 확인함으로써 취업 스트레스를 줄이기 위한 중재 개발을 위한 시사점을 갖는다는 데에 의의가 있다.
