본 연구는 대학교 재학생들이 학업을 이수하는 데에 있어서 심리적 부담과 학업스트레스를 감소시키는 방안을 제시하기 위해 학생들의 사회적 자본이 심리적 안녕감, 대학교 생활적응에 미치는 영향을 검증하고, 심리적 안녕감의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 205부의 설문지를 활용하여 연구를 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들의 사회적 자본은 개인-정서적 적응에 정(+)의 영향을 미치지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 자본은 학업적 적응에 정(+)의 영향을 미치지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 자본은 사회적 적응에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 심리적 안녕감은 사회적 자본과 대학교 생활적응의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 시사점은 다음과 같다. 본 연구는 사회적 자본과 대학교 생활적응의 관계성을 규명했다는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 학생들의 상호 협력관계의 과정을 살펴보고, 그 과정은 사회교환이론에 의해 규명되어진다는 점을 밝히는데 이론적 함의를 찾을 수 있다. 실무적 시사점은 학교차원에서 이러한 사회적 자본을 강화시키고 상호 협력적 환경을 조성할 수 있도록 적극적인 노력이 필요하다는 시사점을 제공하고 있다.
