실시간 기업(RTE)을 공급사슬 또는 개별 기업에서 필요로 하는 이유는 무엇인가? 이를 바탕으로 기업 내부의 핵심 프로세스를 지연 없이(Seamless) 실행하기 위해 시간 기반 경쟁에서 우위를 확보할 수 있는 핵심 역량으로서 실시간 기업(Real Time Enterprise : RTE, 이하 RTE)에 관련한 중요성이 부각 되고 있음을 알 수 있다[12]. 이러한 RTE가 공급사슬 또는 개별 기업에서 필요로 하는 이유는 공급사슬 관리(SupplyChain Management : SCM) 자체가 공급사슬 상에 존재하는 불확실성과 낭비의 요인을 제거하고 최소의 비용과 노력으로 고객이 원하는 시간과 장소에서 고객이 원하는 최고의 서비스를 받게 함으로써 고객가치를 극대화하기 위한 것이다. 이는 전체 공급사슬 프로세스 관점에서 최적화를 추구하기 때문이다.
