북한식물 목록과 국내·외 수목원의 북한식물 유전자원 보유 현황

전 세계 수목원 및 표본관이 보유하고 있는 식물 유전자원 현황 및 정보 공유체계를 효과적으로 활용한다면, 현재 물리적으로 접근이 어려운 북한지역의 생물다양성 보전체계를 구축할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 본 연구는 북한에 자생하지만, 국내(남한)에는 자생하지 않는 식물들에 대한 학명을 검토하고 국내·외 수목원의 유전자원 보유 현황을 파악하기 위해 수행되었다. 북한식물 목록 선정을 위해 한반도 관속식물과 관련한 문헌이나 온라인 식물 종 데이터베이스를 참고하여 재배 및 외래식물 여부, 이명, 분포 범위 등을 검토하였으며, Botanic Gardens Conservation International Plant Database와 각 수목원의 Index Seminum을 활용하여 북한식물에 대한 전 세계 수목원의 유전자원 보유 현황을 파악하였다. 64과, 236속, 449종, 13아종, 21변종, 1품종, 2교잡종 등 486분류군에 대한 북한식물 목록을 선정하였으며 희귀식물, 특산식물, 북방계식물 등의 여부를 확인하였다. 전 세계 5개 대륙, 46개 국가, 333곳의 수목원 및 식물 연구기관에서 53과 190속 384분류군의 북한식물 유전자원을 보유 중인 것으로 확인하였다. 북한 지역과의 지리적 근접성, 과거 식물학자의 이동 등의 요인으로 한국, 일본, 러시아 등 동북아시아 국가가 보유하고 있는 북한식물 유전자원 종 다양성이 상대적으로 높은 것으로 확인된다. 본 연구는 북한 자생식물 종 목록 구축 및 응용을 도모하여 한반도 생물 다양성 보전을 위한 과학적 기반 마련과 글로벌 거버넌스 구축에 이바지할 것으로 생각된다.
