As of 1980, the relative importance of horticultural products in comparison with other agricultural products, has shown a rising trend. As an improvement of the national income and the rapid progress of urbanization take place, species of ornamental plants become diversified, and its use has been expended particularly with flowers for human surrounding as a part of life. But recent studies has shown that consumption pattern has been changing. This study was carried out to provide behavioral data of the consumption propensity and user's motivation of university students for ornamental plant industry. The results are as follows: 1. The expenditure of their pocket money for gift was 5% of total money per month (31.9%), 10% of total money per month (31.5%), and in the case of a male pupil, the expenditure for gift was different more and less. 2. The choice preference of a gift hoped receive from their friend was flower(33.8%), cloth(22.7%), perfume(20.0%), jeweler(19.0%), cosmetics(19.0%) totally, and the choice preference of a gift hoped give to their friend was flower(41.0%), cloth(29.1%), perfume(17.5%), jeweler(I7.5%), cosmetic(4.0%). 3. The preference rate of ornamental plants was cut-flower for 48.6%, orchid for 17.0%, pot-plant for 12.6%, totally, and in the case of a male pupil, orchid was wanted greatly. 4. As a result from factor analysis, their motivations were categorized into tree factor groups: 'self-centeredness', 'others-centeredness', and 'social interactional centeredness'.
