The purpose of this study is to compare the obese child' s body image, food habit, and food attitude with the non-obese child's, in order to prepare health promotion program for obese childern. Body image which is the concept of one's own body based present and past perception is dynamic and changes constantly throughout the life cycle but it changes greatly in illness, surgery, and accident The obese child feel a shame to obese his(her)self, too. The subjects were 54 obese children and 58 non-obese childern attending an elementary school in Choogju city, Choong-book province. The instrument for this study was questionnaire composed of body cathexis(Secord & Jourard, 1953), semantic differential method, food attitude(Boren et al., 1983) and food habit(Lee, 1980). Data were collected over two periods of 14 days from the 10th to 17th of June and from the 15th to 22nd of October, 1998. And analyzed by descriptive statistics, il test, t-test and Pearson correlation. The results of this study were as follows: 1. There was a significant difference in body image measured by body cathexis scale between obese children and non-obese children(t=-4.68, p<.001). 2. There was a significant difference in body image measured by semantic differential scale between obese children and non-obese children(t=-2.75, p<.0l). 3. There was a significant correlation between body cathexis scale and semantic differential scale(r=.5490, p.05). 6. There was a significant difference in food habit measured by food habit scale between obese children and non-obese children(t=-4.43, p<.00l). In conclusion, the obese child has a more negative body image than the non-obese child. And the obese and non-obese children were not yet taking shape a favourable food habit and attitude in order to health promotion. Therefore the body image is useful in understanding the influences of obesity on child, and an elementary school should be fitting children for food habit and attitude against obesity.
