This study examined online and offline newsroom convergence to cope with a journalism crisis and develop a new strategy in a new media era. To analyze factors influencing online and offline newsroom convergence, journalists were asked through surveys and in-depth interviews with journalists and experts. The questionnaire was composed of three parts; news production change due to a converged newsroom adoption, barriers and expectations due to a converged newsroom adoption, and the degree of convergence and the best time to adopt a converged newsroom. First, advantages such as the increase of news coverage through computer use, general use of multimedia news writing, and development of online journalism in quality were described while disadvantages such as increased workload, news softness, news quality problems were also introduced. Second, barriers of a converged newsroom were increased workloads, the lack of multimedia contents producers, discrepant views between journalists and executives, the lack of understanding of other media, and cultural differences, but cost and the resistance of the union were not a big deal. Also, they expected new recruiting system, understanding online and offline media, survival over the journalism crisis, new image making of the newspaper company, quality, expertise, acceleration toward paid online newspaper, cost-benefit efficiency and so on. Finally, spatiotem poral convergence was a main factor for the degree of the convergence and 2~3 years would be best time for adoption.
