This study is associated with a project to consider the issue of popularity with respect to ecriture feminine, which has been discussed as methodology of feminist literature. In this study we focused on ecriture feminine, because it is considered to provide us with ultimate way to solve and overcome the matter of popularity in the feminist poetry in terms of methodology of creation. This study extends the meaning of ecriture feminine beyond the creation of poetry conducted by women to any works that takes feminist attitudes or rhetorical characteristics of ecriture feminine resistant against existing institutional writing practices. We also emphasize dual aspects of popularity in this study. By stressing compulsion contained in popularity and qualitative changes functioning as criticism and subversion to mainstream culture, we aimed to find how ecriture feminine can earn popularity, keeping in mind the popularity of popular arts comprised of humor, sentimentality, sensation, sensuality, illusion. In this study we analyzed poems published since the 1980 as examples of ecriture feminine in order to suggest that characteristics of literary style seen in ecriture feminine can serve as a critical alternative for existing institutional way of writing in connection with changed inclinations of the public. Ecriture feminine has related itself to popularity through resistant and alternative writing practices to the mainstream. Antagonistic relationship, which ecriture feminine and popularity have developed each other through conflicts and overlaps is considered to remain further in the future, even though some predict that the topology of literature will change as time goes by. "Ecriture feminine" defined by the first generation of feminist poets has often employed the strategy of sarcastic aggressiveness such as parody. While such strategy has played an aggressive and subversive role, it is clear that such strategy against dichotomy has been not highly successful in excluding dichotomy fundamentally. It is interesting to witness a new generation led by Lee Won, Ryu Hyung-jin, Jin Eun-young, because their way of writing shows potentials of ‘(post) ecriture feminine’ to fundamentally eliminate dichotomy mentioned earlier. Given non-linear, interactive, and multimedia characteristics of digital literature, their writing has something in common with literary style of ‘ecriture feminine’ in a broader sense. Those women poets symbolically show us that ‘ecriture feminine’ moves in a different direction, by connecting with "popularity" of digital writing in a significantly light and pleasant manner. Although it will take some more time to expect how their poetry will suggest possibility to the Korean poetry, it is plausible to predict that they will possibly lead us to a new phase we have never experienced so far.
