In the age of globalization, many people agree that U.S.-Sino relation is going toward the mutual cooperation with the increase of economic exchange and interdependence between them. But this study aims to make it clear that the considerable growth in economic exchanges between two countries substantially does not imply the solidified U.S. hegemony with China"s soft landing into current international economic order. This study examines the process of Strategic Economic Dialogue(from Dec 2006 to June 2008) from the view of Neoliberalism which is one of the main paradigms on international relations. It shows that US and China act as rational actors who try to maximize their own profits, with recognition of relative profits, through the process of SED. Based on this, we can expect that they would keep up their economic cooperations. The openness of China"s market and it"s entering into the capitalistic monetary system would be ongoing, too. Nevertheless, this study also reveals that China, who eagers to acquire more profit from cooperation with U.S., does not internalize the U.S."s liberal values from the bottom of the heart, and does not actually formulate cooperation-oriented identity which is needed to maintain the stable U.S.-centered international economic order. In conclusion, it cannot be affirmed that continuing economic exchanges between U.S. and China and the China"s rise could make some contribution to consolidate the U.S."s hegemony. The fact that the competition in economic area between China and the U.S. is heating has profound implications for the future reorganization of international order, especially at the moment that the U.S"s hegemony is declining due to the international financial crisis.
