Objectif: Evaluer l’étendue de l’exposition sociale à un vaste programme ART gouvernemental dans les régions rurales d’Afrique du sud.Méthode: Les données cliniques de 6681 patients ont été appariées à des données démographiques d’une cohorte presque complète de 102.359 personnes résidant dans la zone couverte par le programme. Nous avons calculé la proportion de résidents dans la zone de surveillance démographique qui étaient membres d’un ménage ou résidait dans une concession où quelqu’un avait débuté l’ART ou reçu des soins pré‐ART.Résultats: En janvier 2010, 3% de la population avait débuté l’ART. Toutefois, 25% de la population faisait partie de ménage ou résidait dans une concession où quelqu’un avait débuté l’ART, 40% des ménages partageaient l’habitation ou des modes de vie avec des gens qui avaient soit débuté l’ART ou étaient inscrits dans des soins pré‐ART.Conclusion: Ces taux élevés d’exposition sociale suggèrent que des programmes ART à grande échelle sont susceptibles d’avoir des retombées profondes sur les normes sociales et le bien‐être économique. Ces résultats soulignent également l’opportunité d’atteindre un grand nombre de personnes avec des services de santé et sociaux à travers les programmes ART existants.
