Fusion through blending and mixing of elements has emerged in various areas of social settings, cultures, arts, and daily living creating diversities. This study aims to discover the value of fusion, and to increase its effective value in the fashion information network by examining the phenomena of fusion in fashion design. The purpose of the study is to reveal the concepts of the term "fusion" and its background, its emerging phenomena in various areas of design, and its phenomena that appeared during the period of 1910 to present in fashion design. Domestic and foreign journals and articles, dissertations, pictures from museums and art galleries, and the internet information were the materials that were used. The term "fusion" means mixing or harmonizing. This concept appeared under the influence of Post-Modernism. The phenomena of fusion in other areas of design emerged in a similar manner whereas, in fashion design, it was already establishing a trend. At the beginning of 20th century, fusion in fashion design appeared in simplistic forms, However, toward the end of the century, it became robust and complex; especially after 1980, when the fusion of fashion design, with dynamic forces in diversities appeared in blending styles of the East and the West, had different images that were influenced by multi-culturalism, dismantlement of the dichotomy of sexes, union of upper-class and lower class, restoration of the past time styles in Retro Look, and sports culture in lifestyles seeking well-being. To derive elements in these individual specific"s requests in a fast paced and global environment, further research is recommended to elicit the characteristics of fusion phenomena in fashion design in light of social and cultural settings.
