This study investigates the differences of information sources between two global media camps covering Libya’s civil war that began in February 2011: one camp, such as France24 and Aljazeera, supports NATO’s intervention in Libya’s turmoil in the name of the protection of human rights, the other camp, such as Russia Today and Deusche Welle, opposes it in the name of the sovereignty of Libya. As predictions from previous studies, there are some significant differences of information sources between the two media groups in the Libyan case. For example, rebel forces in Libya, France and the US governments, and Arab league are primary information sources for the former, while the latter uses more diverse and broader information sources including the statement of the Libyan government. The difference identified in this study indicates that each global media employs deliberately-selected information sources to support and justify its own standpoint on a certain international issue. Another finding of this study is that the Korean media tends to rely largely on the Western media, such as AP, The New York Times, The Guardian, BBC, and so on, in coverage of Libya’s civil war as usual. From this finding, this work suggests that the Korean media should employ more diverse and broader information sources to keep the balance in the coverage of global agenda including the Libyan case.
