This paper is to refer to the outcasts of a nation, whose identity they are deprived of, as ‘a refugee,’ and in their self-narratives, try to grasp the making of a ‘subject as a refugee’ which makes a rupture to national narrative and traverse nationalism. The term refugee means those who have been expelled outside the law, or demarcation of a nation as well as those driven out by race, religion or political, ideological difference. The removed who are not qualified as a subject to a nation, become refugee, including Korean-Japanese, immigrant workers and North Korean defectors. The former studies about refugee or minority focus on the representations of the marginalized in Korean literature or culture, and discuss the meaning of it. It has a hypothesis that they are existents in silence or forced to be lapsed into it whereby they are those for whom any one should speak. In this paper, I argue that they are not the silenced but who are those speaking with a foreign language, not with the language of the nation, under which awareness I remark on the narratives of their own history written by them. Sub Kyoung-sik and Kang Sang-jung remember mother-history and reflect on their status as refugee or marginal called Korean-Japanese. Mahbub Alam who has been living as a born-immigrant, wandering in three countries India, Bangladesh and Korea, and the two have in common in their narratives with the fact that they do not accept the status of refugee, but merely that of lack or deficiency. All the more, they seem to put the status into the possibility to appraise the violence of nationalism, and to imagine beyond the nation. Beings as perceptible for that condition are designated as ‘refugee’ in the above mentioned. Like the three persons who call themselves ‘refugee’ or ‘earthian’, with the transition of a subject as refugee acknowledging that status, we may make natural history ruptured and think of a new community traversing the nation.
