Abstract

RésuméLeadership et genre dans des groupes : une expérience. Il s'agit d'un rapport sur une expérience de laboratoire pour étudier les différences des genres dans le leadership. On réduit le concept de leadership à sa plus simple expression et à ses éléments de base, de manière à rendre impertinentes les questions de style du leader et ses évaluations portant sur le style. Notre leader est un joueur ordinaire qui se distingue seulement par le fait qu'il occupe une position de leadership. La légitimité du leader lui est conférée par l'information spéciale qu'il possède. Ceux qui le suivent choisissent volontairement de suivre ou non le leader mieux informé. L'efficacité du leader se réduit à deux facteurs simples : est‐ce que le leader est prêt ou non à se placer volontairement dans une position vulnérable pour en arriver à un résultat bénéfique pour le leader et ceux qui le suivent? Est‐ce que ceux qui le suivent ont confiance que leurs leaders vont faire le bon choix? On donne des résultats expérimentaux qui montrent que les femmes leaders et suiveuses sont plus coopératives que les hommes dans la plupart des situations. Les femmes leaders montrent une certaine hésitation à assumer le leadership dans des situations de groupes mixtes, où des signaux de genre existent et où le refus de suivre peut les heurter de manière significative. Le comportement de ceux qui suivent est le même vis‐à‐vis les leaders quel que soit le genre.
