The development of high Tc superconducting materials, whichhave the potential of energy innovation, has been carried out with a partial success andthen strongly required to develop the application technique and to elaborate a newsuperconducting materials. Among a number of possible applications of hightemperature superconducting material, the thin film to make microelectronic devices isrequired to have sufficiently high critical current density (Jc>106 A/㎠). Presently, theChemical Vapor Deposition(CVD) method has achieved a remarkable success throughepitaxial growing of superconducting thin film by CVD. To accelerate its possibility inmicroelectronics it would be best to be able to the most popular substrate, that is, Si.However, a direct deposition has not been successful mainly due to a high diffusion orchemical reaction between substrate and superconductor. To overcome thosedifficulties, low temperature deposition has been demanded. In this research, therefore, the most stable Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films were preparedby thermal CVD at low deposition temperature. In the first year, the fabrication ofY-Ba-Cu-O thin film by CVD method was investigated to establish the preparationtechnique of superconducting thin film on various ceramic substrates (MgO(100),SrTiO3(100). In the second year, Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films directly deposited on Sisubstrate and analyzed by XRD, SEM respectively.Superconducting YBa2Cu3Oy thin films were prepared at the deposition temperatureof 650℃ under oxygen partial pressure of 0.0126 Torr on Si(111) and MgO(100)substrates by chemical vapor deposition technique using β-diketonates of Y, Ba and Cuas source materials. All films had a similar Tc.onset of 91K but the films onMgO(100) and Si(111) substrates had a different zero-resistance Tc of 87K and about75K, respectively. Two-dimensionally well alligned microstructure was developed forthe film deposited on MgO(100) substrate whereas a relatively randomly distributedmicrostructure was developed for the film prepared on Si(111) substrate.
