1. Establishment of the application rate of organic matter in forage cron and whole crop barley in reclaimed saline soil
It is known that there is low status of soil fertility in newly reclaimed tidal land. The incorporation of crop residue is an effective method to improve soil properties and fertility in reclaimed saline soils. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of rice straw application to improve physico-chemical properties of saline-sodic soil and its contribution to productivity of whole-crop barley and forage corn. In addition, to establish the optimum rate of rice straw addition for forage corn and whole crop barley in reclaimed saline soil, three-year field experiment for forage corn and two-year field experiments for whole crop barley were carried out. The study site was located in Gyehwa district in Saemangeum reclaimed land. In forage corn, rice straw affected growth characteristics and yield parameters significantly. Also. The continuous addition of rice staw have an positive effect on soil improvement. The yield was highest in 5.0ton/ha of rice straw. However Increasing rate of rice straw did not promote crop growth further. For 7.5 ton of rice straw application. The plant height did not grow well. In addition, The N content of plant tissue in both stover and ears decreased in 7.5 ton treatment. However. The soil physico-chemical properties improved positively with increasing rate of rice straw incorporated in reclaimed saline land. The soil organic matter and soil available phosphorus increased significantly. In whole-crop barley, Increasing rate of rice straw improved growth parameter related to yield of whole crop barley, which increased tiller number significantly (p<0.05). The yield in rice straw-amended plot were increased [15%(F.W) and 9%(D.W), respectively]. The content of Soil Organic Matter(SOM) in the surface soil(0-20cm) with rice straw incorporation was increased by 5~9%(RS 2.5~RS 7.5) compared to RS 0, in which the content of SOM was decreased after two consecutive cultivations. Rice straw incorporation promoted soil physico-chemical properties and nutrient-availability of test crop, as indicated in change in soil bulk density, porosity and increased nutrient uptake of plant. Especially, the P content and uptake of silage barley was increased with the rate of rice straw application increasing. In conclusion, the rice straw application by 5.0-7.5 ton·ha-1 in reclaimed saline soils effectively improved soil properties and crop productivity, which has potentials to reduce the loss of chemical fertilizers and facilitate the favorable condition for crop growth under adverse soil condition.
2. Establishment of optimum fertilization on forage corn and whole crop barley in reclaimed soil
In this study, the aim of the study is to establish optimum application rate of chemical fertilizer of Nitrogen and Phosphorus for forage corn and whole crop barley in reclaimed land. Three field experiment was carried out as follows : #1, #2 > to establish the optimum ratel of fertilizer in Nitrogen and Phosphorus for forage corn and whole crop barley is at 0, 50, 100, 150, 200%. #3> to establish the split nitrogen fertilization for forage corn is 50+50%, 50+30+20%, 40+30+30%. As control, The 100 % basal fertilizer was placed. At whole crop barley field, chemical fertilization lowered soil pH, the level of soil organic matter and Ex. Na, whereas soil available phosphorus and Ex. K increased. Yield(dry matter) at 200% Nitrogen and 100% phosphorus were better. However, TDN yield increased at 150% nitrogen and 150% phosphorus, Based on Biomass and TDN yield, The fertilization at 150% N and 150% P was recommended as optimum fertilization of Nitrogen and Phosphorus. At forage corn field, Chemical fertilizer have effect on soil chemical properties. soil pH, soil organic matter and available phosphorus decreasd as affected by Nitrogen fertilization, whereas phosphorus fertilization increased soil pH, soil organic matter and soil available phosphorus. Biomass(D.M) at 200% N and 200% P was better. However, TDN yield was highest at 150% Nitrogen and 150% Phosphorus. In split nitrogen fertilization for forage corn, Increased frequency have positive effect on growth and yield of forage corn. Three-time splitting fertilization was recommended. Especially, The yield and Nutrient use efficiency was better at 50+30+20%
3. Reduction of nitrogen fertilizer by leguminious green manure crop in reclaimed saline land
It is known that the poor soil fertility of newly reclaimed saline soils is due to the lack of organic matter and available mineral nutrients for crop production. The effect of green manuring with Sesbania aculeata and hariy vetch in combination with five levels of urea-N treatments(N0. N25, N50, N75, N100) on the productivity of a subsequent silage barley and soybean was evaluated. Subsequently, the fertility of the reclaimed saline soil in Saemangeum was evaluated in the field during 2013-2014 growing season. Sesbania was grown during summer(June to October). Hairy vetch was cultivated in 2013-2014 winter seasaon. The amount of Sesbania and Hairy vetch in October of 2013 and May of 2014 incorporated was 16.2ton and 3.29ton ha-1 respectively. Sesbania and Hairy vetch contributed to 393 kgN and 101kgN ha-1 to the soils when ploughed down before whole crop barley and soybean cultivated. The performances of whole crop barley following sesbania were significantly affected by a combination of Sesbania amendment and different N rates. Based on N uptake, the N fertilizer equivalence without N fertilizer following Sesbania was 42.6%(50.4kgN/ha), compared with N100(94kgN ha-1) in fallow soils. The silage barley yield responded to N fertilizer rates in both sesbania-amended and fallow soil. The yield response to nitrogen rates in fallow soil was linear(Y=0.0586X+3.3011, R2=0.96), whereas that in sesbania-amended soils was quadratic(Y=0.001X2+0.1322X+5.7143,R2=0.96). The yield of silage barley in sesbania-amended with increasing N rates was increased up to N75(115kgN) 10.3Mg ha-1 whereas The yield of N100 in sesbania-amended decreased. apparent N recovery of silage barely showed decreased with sesbania plus increasing rates of N fertilizer. Despite higher yield with sesbania manuring plus increasing N rates, the contributions of N from Sesbania with increasing N rates to silage barley were decreased, whereas those from fertilizer increasing due to excessively mineralized N. The performances of soybean followed by hairy vetch were significantly affected by a combination of green manuring and different N rates. Based on yield, the N fertilizer equivalence without N fertilizer following hairy vetch incorporation was is 219kg/10a, close to N100(60kgN) in fallow soil. Maximum yield in hairy vetch in combination with N50% was recorded. The yield of soybean at N75 and N100 decreased. The yield response to nitrogen rate in fallow soil was linear (Y=1.52x+55.93 R2=0.986), whereas that in hairy vetch-amended soils was quadratic(Y=-0.023X2+2.331X+219.1,R2=0.684) Soil inorganic nitrogen was highly increased in hairy-vetch amended plot. Especially, at the initial growth stage, The level of inorganic nitrogen in hairy-vetch plus N75 and N100 were higher.
