While investing in technology of long-span bridge (more than 100m), technical development and investment of middle span bridges (40m~60m) are insufficient. So middle span bridges did not break away from existing method.
And in the domestic construction site, because of the aging of construction craftsmen and avoidance of 3D job, the field craftsmen is reduced rapidly. In addition, strengthen the regulations and the unusual weather (El Nino, La Nina etc.) has reduced productivity.
Therefore, we need a way to minimize the field work. And one of the method is to use a pre-cast concrete. The method for applying the pre-cast concrete has been actively studied at home and abroad.
Precast construction method is to produce the products in a factory and to assemble on site. Thus it is easy to the quality control and enables fast job. Also it is excellent in safety and economy and it can cope with the lack of skilled workers on-site.
But Knowledge of domestic precast construction method is the level that mimics the techniques of industrialized countries. To escape this situation, we throughly understand the advanced technology. It is necessary to develope competitive and unique technology and to unify design and manufacture and construction. And it should develop the available technologies in the field.
In this study, It verifies developed item through experiments and makes a production facility to commercialize the developed items. And then produce the product considering the work efficiency. Also we want to obtain the available design, manufacture and construction technologies in the domestic market as well as abroad.
Results
This developed technology is remedy existing bridge shortcomings. The new type bridge used developed technology is to produce the products in a factory and to assemble on site. It is good method about workability, safety, economics and aesthetics. Especially, Core technique is to use an optimized pre-tension the web and the wet joint system.
Therefore, we perform ongoing research to the commercialization of this technology.
A brief summary of research results are as follows
1. Standardized section
It was standardized optimized cross-section using a high-strength concrete and prestressed steel rods.
2. Build production facilities
To product precast concrete members, we used a steel mould and build a jacking system also we maximized work efficiency during assembly.
3. Safety verification through experiments
We were carried out joint performance test and we were carried out shear and flexure performance test of pretension web members. Also we made the mockup to verify safety of support and we verity the load carrying capabilities.
4. Intellectual property rights and public relations
We get six cases registered patents. And we published papers and technical articles and attended an academic conference. Also brochures were printed for promotion.
This developed technology is capable of 10~20% cost savings compared to existing PSC I girder bridge. Therefore, reducing the SOC project budget is expected. Also it is expected to contribute to reduction of industrial waste and CO2 emissions.
Expected Contribution
Domestic technical development and investment about middle span bridges are insufficient. Companies that mimic the advanced technologies are losing competitiveness in the international market. Through this study, we was understand the behavior of the girder and we was acquired original technology about design and construction of competitive girder. Thus it is expected be utilized in the following areas to replace PSC I girder.
- Applied to the bridge for enhancing the workability and appearance.
- Applied to disaster recovery site or the bridge which is to minimize the disturbance to the flow of traffic.
- Bridges used as a substitute for expensive middle-long bridges (preflex bridges, PSC box bridge, steel composite bridge, etc.).
- It is expected to contribute to increasing exports in overseas businesses as a way to economic bridge which is the high quality and short time construction.
- Various construction methods is applicable for bridge.
- Using the socket joint system in the precast members, it is possible to apply of wall and culverts, retaining walls, building structures, etc.
