□ Purpose&contents
Using optical SHG measurement and Maxwell-Wagner Modeling, carrier transport is studied for development of high efficient injection-type organic devices, i.e., high mobility OFETs and high efficient OLEDs
◉ The three key topics;
▶ Analysis and visualization of carrier transport in organic devices as a dielectric polarization propagation phenomenon by optical SHG
▶ Modeling of organic devices using the Maxwell-Wagner effect model analysis
▶ Improvement of carrier injection by using advanced materials, graphene and other materials
□ Result
The MW effect model analysis is based on Maxwell’s equation, and it is available for analyzing many organic devices, such as Organic Field Effect Transistor, organic light emitting diod and Organic solar cells. This is so-called dielectric physics approach and different from the semiconductor device physics approach, but very effective for analyzing organic devices, generally comprised of materials with a large energy gap and a very low intrinsic carrier density. For analyzing devices, I focus on the electric field arising from injected carriers and mobile carriers, and EFISHG is used as a tool for its detection. I will demonstrate the charge mechanism in organic semiconductor device by using the EFISHG and time-resolved EFISHG measurement, and the vertical and horizontal carrier motion in organic devices is explored accordingly in terms of device structure.
First year
○ Metal-Insulator-metal devices as a reference sample.
○ Optical setup for the 3-D SHG measurement with vertical electric field
Second year
○ Evaluation of the charging mechanism with organic field effect transistor based on electrical and optical measurement systems.
○ Analysis of transport mechanism as time-resolved SHG and 3-D SHG measurements
○ The analysis of organics field effect transistor based on the MW effect model
Third year
○ Fabrication of graphene/organic semiconductor device
○ Study on Schottky junction of all carbon device and interface characteristics using
SHG measurement
○ Analysis of MW effect model
○ Study of development of highly efficient organic semiconductor device
□ Expected Contribution
The successful accomplishment of this project will provide a thorough physic of organic devices based on dielectrics physics approach. It may provide a new way for designing organic devices, on the basis of theory that differs from semiconductor device physics. The successful accomplishment of this project will be effective for advancing and developing flexible device as the next generation to convenience life style, and contribute to the development of electronic and optoelectronic organic devices based on organic physics. Furthermore probing the electric field is a fundamental issue and this is also common for all devices including devices using inorganic materials. It will great contribute full understanding of organic device physics, and give an impact to scientific community, including universities, research laboratories and manufacturing companies.
