○ In the sowing and formal stages, the mechanization rate of the seedling is very low. So, it is necessary to introduce the farming technology for the sowing and the formal cultivation.
- In direct seed cultivation of seeds, if seeds are small, it has difficulty in securing initial seeds due to several factors such as ensuring appropriate population, harming birds, and competing with weeds.
- To overcome those difficulties, It is necessary to develop a technology that utilizes and optimizes the existing vegetable transplanting machine that automatically feeds the seedling with the standardized plug seedling.
○ This study was conducted to investigate the effects of commercial cultivars on growth and root formation based on the type of soil for the development of appropriate seedling technology for mechanicallycultivated millets (Foxtail millet, Setaria italica) and (Proso millet, Panicum miliaceum L.).
1. Tested varieties and seedling time
- Test varieties: Joe (samwon), and Kijang (bacon)
- Seedling time: (1st year) Late April to late August, 2017, (2nd year) Early May to August - Late August, 2018.
2. Seedling tray: 128 ball, 220 ball (automatic tray only), and rice seedling box (midwife).
3.Seedling selection
- Review the main ingredient ratio by application and type for 170 products.
- The soil classification was divided into following, light weight, semi-weight, light weight for horticulture.
Results and Discussion
1. Comparison of planting time and tray length
- Growth of seedling, seedlings of Joe and Killer was affected by the order of trays> sowing date.
- The 128-ball trays were 32.7% higher(average 35.8%) than the 220balls.
2. Evaluation of Growth of Soil Cultivars in Spotted Seedlings
- Plant: Seedling 15 days, Seedling 20 days, Excellent in S1 and S2 soil.
* The correlation between stem length (R = 0.927), root length (R = 0.706) and fresh weight (g).
* The correlation between stem length (R = 0.965), root length (R = 0.619) and fresh weight (g).
- Seedling evaluation (18 ± 2cm): Suitable for seeds of 128 days for 15 days and 20 days for 220 days.
* The most suitable machine for planting seedlings is about 18cm in length.
3. Evaluation of Growth of Soil Cultured in midwives
- Using rice nursery box for midwives (20g seeding rate): Excellent in S1 soil, 15 days of seedlings.
- The soil is superior to the S2 soil and the W1 and W2 soil (for gardening).
- Seedling evaluation (18 ± 2cm): 15 days of seedling is appropriate (S1 planting 20 days 28-31cm overgrowth).
○ Transplanting rate of transplanters is largely influenced by condition of tray plant.
- For sesame, loss rate of transplanting of pick-up type was the range of 18.2%~49.6%, it showed that adaptability of transplanter was low.
○ For perilla, soybean, red bean, foxtail millet and millet, loss rate of transplanting of pick-up type was high, it showed that adaptability of transplanter was good, in case of tray red bean with wide leaves. it was totally low.
○ For foxtail millet and millet, in case of short hill spacing with 10㎝, the transplanted condition was bad because a planting hopper touches the transplanted plant.
○ It was first needed of uniformed breeding technology of tray plant for increasing the transplanting rate, the condition of tray plant influenced the working performance of transplanters.
- Working performance of transplanters : 2.09 hrs/10a(pick-up type),2.08 hrs/10a(push-up type), 2.19 hrs/10a((hand-supply type)
