□ Purpose & Contents
The main purpose of this work includes design and fabrication of MEAs with high durability and performance at low Pt contents in order to satisfy the cost targets ofPEMFCs. The detailed MEA performance targets are as follow.
- MEA performance : 1.6W/㎠, H2/air, 1.8 bar (80℃, 50% RH, MEA active area > 25㎠)
- MEA durability : voltage decay rate 2%/1,000 h, life time 5,000 h (based on AST protocol)
- below 0.125mg Pt/㎠ (including anode+cathode)
□ Results
(Development of innovative production technology for high performance/high durability low-cost MEA)
• By optimizing the performance of the fuel cell including the PtNi/C catalyst layer and the hierarchical membrane-electrode assembly, it achieved the world's highest target by showing a performance of 2.802 A/cm2 @0.6 V with a catalyst loading amount of 0.4 mg Pt/cm2. .
• A large-area hierarchical membrane-electrode assembly prepared by manufacturing a 100 cm2 large-area multi-scale polymer film through a plasma etching process and loading 0.4 mgPt/cm2 catalyst in a 100 cm2 area through a large-area spray process By applying the result, the power density of 101.6 W is obtained, and the performance is more than 100 W
• A large amount of PtNi/C catalyst was produced by the electron beam synthesis process, and by combining it with a multi-scale electrolyte membrane technology having a multi-layer structure, power density of 1.652 W/cm2 was achieved by loading a catalyst of 0.125 mgPt/cm2. In termsof durability, as a result of performing durability evaluation (5,000 hours, AST) using the DOE protocol, the power density decreased by 9.14% compared to before AST, and the target value ofless than 5,000 hours and 10% loss was achieved.
• Development of non-platinum Fe-N/C-based fuel cell catalyst, power density 695 mW/cm2 (8 0℃, 2 atmospheres, O2 condition), Imax = 2570 mA/cm2 at 0.2 V, after 5000 cycles through half-cell measurement Durability measurement result E1/2 decreases by 40 mV
• Developed low platinum PtxMg/C based fuel cell catalyst, achieved power density of 1650 mW/cm2 (80℃, 2 atm, O2 condition) and 1060 mW/cm2 (80℃, 0.5 atm, O2 condition) respectively, US DOE standard Achieved 30.2% reduction in performance after 30,000 cycles
• Octahedral platinum nickel catalyst: Reactivity per mass 1.24 A mg-1Pt Platinum-cobalt catalyst: 0.81 A mg-1Pt achieved, confirming that all of them show improved reactivity per mass compared to commercial platinum catalysts (0.22 A mg-1Pt)
• PtFe@cBCP with a platinum content of 1 wt% was loaded with a catalyst of 0.01 mgPt/cm2 to achieve an activity of 1.6 A/mgPt per mass of the catalyst. It was confirmed that it is the bestamong the catalysts reported so far.
