- Verified data reliability by comparing Weddell seal behavior data obtained with precise CTD data measured on the Araon vessel.
- Established a system for observing ocean environments using marine mammals by receiving satellite data during the difficult Antarctic winter season (April-September) when measurements from icebreakers are difficult to obtain.
○ Conducted continuous observations of oceanic parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, pCO2, inorganic carbon, nutrients, primary production).
- Conducted time-series observations of oceanic physical factors (temperature, salinity, currents), biogeochemical factors (dissolved oxygen, nutrients, pCO2, pH, inorganic carbon, organic carbon, trace metals), biological factors (chlorophyll-a), and productivity (GPP, NCP).
○ Conducted ecosystem modeling experiments.
- Quantitatively evaluated interactions using an ecosystem model and verified a simple ecological model using continuous observation data.
○ Established a database.
- Registered 14 or more records in the Korean Polar Data Center (KPDC).
○ Analyzed the adaptation mechanisms of key organisms (sea ice algae, skuas, Antarctic scallops, Antarctic silverfish).
- Tracked changes in the feeding patterns of top predators, such as south polar skuas, in response to environmental changes.
- Investigated the impact of changes in nearby glaciers and sea ice on primary productivity in coastal waters near Jang Bogo Station.
- Analyzed the correlation between annual fluctuations in sea ice and marine microalgae in response to changes in sea ice environment (e.g., salinity).
- Compared and analyzed variations in food sources of Antarctic silverfish at the trophic level using ice algae and marine microalgae as primary producers (e.g., using stable isotopes as a chemical tracer).
- Analyzed the growth patterns of Antarctic scallops by age and compared the results with previous studies to assess their current status.
- Conducted multivariate analysis and cluster analysis to compare benthic communities in the vicinity of ice edge and reference areas.
○ Analyzed physiological changes in Weddell seals based on their behavior and lifestyle.
- Investigated the ecological mechanisms related to long-term fasting, cold adaptation, and deep-sea diving behaviors of Weddell seals throughout their life history.
- Analyzed physiological changes related to long-term fasting, cold adaptation, and deep-sea diving behaviors of Weddell seals.

○ Explored harmful microorganisms and verified their pathogenicity.
- Analyzed harmful microorganisms and virulence factors in Arctic environmental samples s
- Analyzed virulence factors from the genomes of bacterial isolates from Russian soils
- Performed pathogenicity tests of fungi isolated from infected plants on plants
○ Modified/developed observation equipment for Antarctic sea-ice environment.
- Operated and obtained data from a jointly developed submersible bio-logger with New Zealand for three years from 2020 to 2022.
- Installed an oceanographic profiler (targeted for the second year) at a depth of 450m to directly observe supercooling water and sediment that directly affect benthic ecosystems, and collected data for 2021/22 and added SEBs (temperature sensors).
○ Participated in an international network group through contribution of marine mammal observation data.
- Contributed to obtaining data from the Marine Mammals Exploring the Oceans Pole to Pole (www.meop.net) observation network.
