The Korean Language can be characterized by the distinctive features of its particles. Particles in Korean can be broadly classified into two types, that of 'case particles' and 'delimeters.' In particular, the particles of "□n/n□n" and "i/ka" in relation to 'double subject' have in the past provided the focus for numerous studies. Meanwhile, the usage of these very particles "□n/n□n" and "i/ka" have also proved to be one of the major stumbling blocks in teaching Korean as a foreign language. In this connection, this paper examines the particles "□n/n□n" and "i/ka" from the perspective of teaching Korean as a foreign language, by reviewing previous studies, and then classifying, comparing their respective functions. The particles in question were examined in terms of semantic, pragmatic, and syntactic features. Semantic features were further classified into four aspects: topic, juxtaposition/indication, focus/predication, and generalization/specification, while pragmatic features were subdivided into new information and old information. Utilizing such framework, a comprehension test of the particles under question was administered to the students learning Korean as a foreign language. According to the result, the degree of comprehension in terms of pragmatic features was relatively high. and overall comprehension of the "i/ka" usuage was satisfactory as well, In addition, the order of comprehensibility measure for the particles "□n/n□n" was old information, new information, topic, juxtaposition/focus, syntax, generalization, while that of the particles "i/ka" was syntax. old information, predication, new information, topic, specification, and indication. The results obtained therefrom can be applied as a guiding principle in writing textbooks for teaching Korean as a foreign language and in the preparation of actual teaching method as well. Specifically, the results may also be used as a basis for organizing teaching materials in a sequential order in ascending difficulty. It may also reveal the methodology for teaching students the correct usage of the particles by way of comparison and analysis of the particles concerned. Should further experiments such as the one presented in this paper be utilized in devising textbooks for teaching Korean as a foreign language and in the teaching methodology, the results thus obtained could systematically and efficiently enhance the process of teaching Korean as a foreign language.
