The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of self-efficacy and self-control on the time spent on internet and the addictive use of internet. On-line survey was performed on internet and 992 individuals with various background participated in the study. Self-efficacy of both real life and cyberspace was divided into persornal and interpersonal factor. Scales on these four types of self-efficacy, self- control, addictive use of internet and usage proportion of internet services were administered. The result from the analysis showed that high personal self-efficacy in the real life and in the cyberspace were significant variables on the time spent on internet. Addictive use of internet was predicted in the order of self-control, personal self-efficacy in the cyberspace, interpersonal self-efficacy in the real life, personal self-efficacy in the real life, interpersonal self-efficacy in the cyberspace. When time spent on internet was controled as a covariance, interpersonal self-efficacy in the real life in the real life provided the greatest explanation. Also it was found that the amounts of effects of these variables were different according to the age groups. Self-control gives more explanation as the subjects' age increase, and it was the most important variable in the oldest group. However, interpersonal self-efficacy in the real life gives more explanation to the young subjects, and it was the most influential variable in the youngest group. Possible causes of these findings and implications on therapy and further studies on the addictive use of internet were discussed.
