본 연구에서는 영상해석기법의 일종인 PTV(ParticleTracking Velocimetry)를 이용하여 난류 흐름 중의 침강속도를 측정하였다.

In this study, fall velocity in the turbulent flow is measured by using PTV (Particle Tracking Velocimetry), a kind of image analysis method. The effect of turbulence on the fall velocity has been studied by several researchers. There were, however, many difficulties in quantitative analysis because of the theoretical and technical limitations. Therefore, a new technique to make up for the defects of the existing methods is required. PTV, which has been developed originally as a method for velocity measurement using image-analysis technique, can be used for the measurement of fall velocity in the turbulent flow. It can overcome the shortcomings of existing methods because it can measure the velocity of individual particles without disturbing the flow . The experiments were carried out in the open channel for 4 flow cases and 3 settling particles. The result of the fall-velocity measurement in the still water shows that the fall velocities measured using PTV are in good agreement with those obtained from existing methods, which verifies the use of PTV in the fall velocity measurement. The experimental results confirm the results of several existing studies that the turbulence makes the fall velocity decrease. The result also shows that the dimensionless fall velocity, normalized by the still-water value, decreases from 0.9 to 0.1 as the turbulence intensity of vertical direction increases from 0.4 to 1.0.
