Concrete offer many attractive properties, particularly economy, durability and freedom of design, that have made it the most widely used construction material. Concrete is essential for modem industrial and public buildings. Concrete and reinforced concrete have changed the course of building construction in the last few decades. When these materials were developed about 120 years ago, architecture, civil engineers and builders were presented with materials that not only had physical properties, such as compressive strength and tensile strength in building, but which could be molded like no other material before. It was possible to build either delicate and intricate structures or massive civil engineering works. Concrete economy and durability made it indispensable. Damage to concrete always involves water, while water can cause purely physical damage, for example in the case of freeze/thaw stressing, it is also a medium for the transport of aggressive substances, such as chlorides from road salts and forms a reaction medium for harmful chemical processes, particularly corrosion of the reinforcing steel. One of the most efficient ways of preserving concrete is thus protection against moisture. When protective silicone agent was in its infancy, there were two main sorts of water repellents, namely solution of silicon resins in organic solvents and methyl siliconates in water. Standard methyl silicon resins have the added disadvantage of mot being very disadvantage on alkaline substrates. Under alkaline conditions, the silicon resin network is broken open and methyl siliconates are formed. Methyl siliconates are water-soluble and are leached out by rain. The silicone resin, along with the water repellency it confers on the substrate, dwindles with time. Under the influence of ambient carbon dioxide, aqueous solutions of siliconates undergo the reverse reaction of the reaction by which they were formed, ie, they revert back to the polymeric silicone network, poly-methyl silicone network, poly-methyl silica. Poly-methyl silica is thus the active hydrophobic ingredient in siliconates. Alkali carbonate are formed as by products. Also siliconates are no longer used for impregnating facades, because they are apt to form a white deposit and can be leached out if exposed to rain. Better penetration is achieved by using low-molecular rather than high-molecular compounds. This discovery marked the birth of the S.S. The silanes are mono-meric alkyltri-alkoxy silanes, and the siloxanes are oligomeric alkylalkoxy siloxanes derived therefrom. So This study deals with the properties and application of silane solution for the protection of absorption in concrete surface. It is to know the properties and application of silane solution by estimating the adhesive strength, capacity, penetration depth, resistance of permeability, absorption the chemical resistance, and micro-structure etc. through various test methods for the protection of absorption in concrete surface layer. The conclusion of the study are as belows; 1) The adhesive ability of S.S(Silane Solution) after dry curing(20± 3℃, 60± 5) was around 28∼31kgf/㎠. Compared with the adhesive ability of untreated testing sample being around 19∼24kgf/㎠, the adhesive ability of S.S indicated that S.S's application on surface of concrete layer does not harm to its adhesive ability 2) Water can no linger penetrate on liquid form onto capillaries that have been rendered water repellent, since, as a polar liquid, it is unable to interact with a non polar, hydrophobic surface in absorption capacity of the SS impregnating agents. In other words, pores which have been siliconized and therefore hydrophobic and no longer be wetted by water. The degree of wetting can be determined quantitatively as the contract angle e. Untreated surfaces of mineral building materials was wetted immediately by water because the contract angle would be in range 0˚≤□≤90˚ But the same material was treated with the S.S, the drops of water retain their spherical shape and did not penetrate into the substrate during test of absorptive property. The water supposed to be repelled in the form of beads because the contract angle would be in range 90˚≤□≤ 180˚. 3) Permeability ratio of the S.S was an average of 0.16. Although it has good ability of prevent water invasion from permeating to concrete surface for development of durability in its Surface Layer. That does not always indicated that the S.S's resistance of permeability is perfect waterproofing such as membrane. Generally, underground water depth regards about 10m and 1∼3kg/㎠, it is necessary to consider its application on the underground environment 4) In order that the reduced tendency to absorb water may be long-lasting, It is not sufficient if the S.S effect is limited to the surface of the concrete surface layer. It is essential that the hydrophobic zone extend deep below the concrete surface. But the S.S has depth of penetration in the range of 10.23∼10.00mm (without extra water plus) result from the S.S was test of depth of penetration 5) The test of chemical resistance generally showed that S.S had strong resistance to alkalis. But it did not surfficent resistance to acids. So application of the S.S should be considered in acid environment. 6) The S.S compared to conventional low-viscosity impregnate agents is that even vertical surfaces and ceilings can be treated without materials tricking or dripping off in an uncontrolled way. the S.S can be uniformly impregnate and application in construction field when it will be applied because of its cream type. Also the S.S is solvent-free aqueous preparation, which is therefore environmentally materials As the result of the characteristics of silane solution of capillary coating type can be both good adhesion of coating and compatibleness with other water-based waterproofing materials on the concrete surface layer. It can be possible to reduce water absorption in the capillaries and resist to alkalis. It is also considered that the continuous study about the silane solution of capillary coating based on this should deal with the protection against the disadvantage aspect.
