The new standard of wireless LAN access systems using 5GHz band, having the maximum transmission rate of 54Mbps superior to the systems using 2.4GHz band, is a next generation wireless LAN technology of orthogonal frequency division modulation. However, satellite feeder link systems in the frequency band 5.15~5.25GHz, the earth exploration satellite in the frequency band 5.2 5~5.35GHz, and aeronautical wireless navigation and weather radar in the frequency band 5.470∼5.725GHz are being used.
This thesis studies the availabilityof the WirelessLAN and the FWA, comparatively analyzing the RLAN for indoor environments and the FWA for outdoor environments in terms of acceptable use, in relations to the existing wireless apparatus such as SRA, spaceborne synthetic aperture radars(SARs), weather and navigation radars.
The result of analysis indicates, that the interference level of the wirelessLAN is lower than the interference level of SRA by 20Db(by sending/receiving of SRA from over 1300m midair to the sea), and RLAN allows the interference level of over 13dB from SRA. The SAR, allowing the interference level of 205.4Dbw/Hz, may have an impact from the increase of noise in outdoor environments of high density. It's not a big issue, by the nature of wirelessLAN, that the wirelessLAN systems are used in indoor environments. It is impossible to operate the wirelessLAN in the main robe of SAR, just possible by the control of frequency distance.
According to the level study of 6 types of radar systems and indirectanalysis of weather radar being used in our country, the radar systems with e.i.r.p. of about 200kW have little impact from the wierelessLAN operation of about 0.2W e.i.r.p.. However, frequency sharing between the wirelessLAN and radars in the same bands is difficult, and a need has been identified to use automatic frequency selection function , which automatically moves from one channel to another.
FWA in outdoor environmentsneeds the interference level of about 40 dB from SRA and about 20 dB from SAR, while should not radiate transmitter power to the main radiation direction of SRA or SAR. When the main radiation direction of FWA is bound for radar, as it is possible for FWA to exceed the frequencylevel of radars(I/N=-10dB), some especial cares are needed for the operation of wireless station. The radar signal with small hour rate can be overcome by the error control function of the FWA. RLAN has little impact on the operation of FWA, and it is impossible to operate RLAN in the bands allocated to the FWA systems by the excess of frequency margin.
The results of this study show us that, the expansion of wirelessLAN in indoor environments and of FWA in outdooris no big deal on the premise of the careful set-up of antenna in wireless station. For the outdoor deployment of wirelessLAN, it is needed to consider the interference margin mentioned in this thesis, and more effective way is to choose the automatic frequencyselection technology. Hopefully, this study could make for the establishment of 5GHz frequency policy suitable for our local environments, and for the development of communication industry.
