This study is an attempt to develop a the`ory of 'Women's Studies of dance'. To this end, I apply concept of 'gender parody' into dance and analyze how conventions of the material body are scripted, over-emphasized and destructed in dance. I also research how sexual power is related to the body represented in dance. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: First, gender parody is classified into two kinds based on the characteristics in parody and the steretype for gender. One is 'customary parody', which maintains or reinforces existing gender bias as a result of the characteristics of 'respect for the original' in parody. The other is 'reverse gender parody', which jeers or destructs the fixed ideas for gender as a result of the characteristics of 'ridicule to the original' in parody. Second, customary gender parody is found in the lengthy history of Tal-Choom, Kabuki, Peiking Opera, Ballet in theire early stage. In these types dance, although at times performer's biological sex is not matched with represented gender on stage, female role is portrayed in feminine manner and that of male is depicted in masculine fashion. Dance in customary gender parody which typically exposes gender image and its role participates in bodies 'normalization' by imitating and exaggerating social gender norm. Third, 'reversegender parody' can be found in jazz dance, hip-hop dance, thechno dance, modern dance, and post-modem dance. These types of dance allow flexible gender portrayal regardless of performer's sex. Gender is displayed asexually or bisexually; female dancer performs 'non-feminely', or male dancer performs 'non-manly'. Dance in reverse gender parody which neutralizes gender image or changes its stereotype resists sexual hierachy by dismantling social gender norm. Through the study, it is proved that integration of dance is influenced cultually, historically and politically. Moreover, it has been confirmed that dance can be effectual for femenist stretagy which belives gender changeability. In other words, some experimental dance can show and help us realize that gender is not natural but constructed by halting repeatition the familiar gender mores. In this context, it has been affirmed that overturning expressions of dance can bee practice of body politics over aesthetics.
