(The) study on characteristics of broadcasting news interviews of Korean TV news program : analysis of KBS, MBC, SBS evening news reports원문보기

This study is to reveal characteristics of interviews of Korean broadcasting news reports. To do this the study picked six broadcasting news that had been broadcasted from September, 2003 to July, 2004. Korean television news programs broadcast average thirty reports per program. This is two or three times more of foreign broadcasting news program. Most of the news are report type of news and less various than foreign news program. BBC and ABC do live broadcasting reports 21.3% and 14.3% relatively but, Korean news program includes only 0.7% of live broadcasting reports. The research revealed that for Korean broadcasting news program, excluding anchor comments reports length is 80.4 second, average interviews are 2.3, and interview times are average 8.6 second. Compare to last 1999 research it is 1 second shorter. As interviews are getting shorter they are less compact and this phenomenon makes news reports shallow. 74.3% of entire interviews of broadcasting news reports composed of subjects and objects that have direct relationship with incidents. The first and the second interviews have subjects and objects role and the third interview is about demonstration about the incident. It shows characteristics of report type of news that use interviews of the subject and the object first and then use professionals'' interview to not to focused on simple delivery of incidents. The study also found the same characteristics by analyzing places where the interview was happened. The first interview is happened at the place where the subject and the object have relationship with. But, the third interview was taken mostly in the office where the professionals are. In reports news interviews are placed every two sentences and interview shows 78.6% of relationship with previous sentence. Interview plays a conversion role within average 7.6 sentences. The study also found that three networks have the same pattern of interview reports. The number of sentences, interview and times of interviews of three networks do not show difference among themselves. Also, three networks show that they reports the same news reports. Two network news program reports the same news story 54.2% of the entire news stories and this number is increased by 5.7% compare to 1999 study. This overlapping phenomenon increased uniformity and standardization of news reports. Since the news reports are made within short amount of time it is obvious that interviews are shallow and amount of information is getting less. To solve this problem enough time to report should be guaranteed. Also, news program should choose and focused on certain incidents rather reporting all of them. Relatively less important news should be treated as a short message. Moreover, reporters should find various reporting methods and news.
