Cha Bum Suk is a postwar dramatist who experienced Korean War and started his literary career in the middle of 1950's. He succeeded to the realistic drama that was a main stream of Korean drama and play. He regards "human being" and "reality" as the most important things, and assumes that analyzing them thoroughly after grasping human being and reality is the starting point of realistic drama. This study observed that how his view on play, which oriented toward realism, was reflected on his works with the objects of his early works such as <Homecoming>, <Barren Land>, <Calculator>,<Fourth Class Train>, <Angry Machine) and <I have to survive> and his masterpiece of realistic drama, <Forest Fire>. The women, who seek their own instinctive desire under the circumstances that their husbands are absent due to war, appear in <Homecoming> and <Forest Fire>. The characters, who live in the world that materialism is prevailed, appear in <Barren Land> and <Calculator>, and the characters in <Barren Land> don't adjust themselves to the rapidly changing society and experience conflicts and finally fall down in front of the reality. Those characters, who appear in <Calculator>, are becoming materialistic people in order to survive in the world of materialism. Those characters, who appear in <Fourth Class Train> and <Angry Machine>, struggle to escape from poverty through immoral behaviors since they can't survive if they don't settle the economic situations. However, unlike other works, a character appears in <I have to survive>, who has a firm will to recover the hurts coming from the war. Except <I have to survive>, most of those characters, who appear in his early works, are in despair, frustration and disappointment in the realistic world. Through the characters appeared in his "works, Cha Bum Suk is criticizing the reality that traditional ethics is collapsed and the world is seeking material first and people don't trust each other and they are gradually deteriorated into individualism and selfishness. Although his view on play that intended to handle "human being" and "reality" importantly is reflected on his works, regretfully he just stays with protecting the characters' grief through his criticism on the reality, and consequently he reveals his limit that he fails to show his will and action for getting better reality.
