This study was designed to investigate the realities of play and leisure activities and what young people want to engage in for leisure activities. The research question of the study were: 1. What the current youthful leisure/play activities, the targets, the time, the level of parents' participation, and the interest of parents are, as well as the satisfaction level of those engaged in the leisure activities. 2. The amount of time that youths want to spend for play and what play they want to engage in. 3. The support that young people want from their parents and society for their play activities. A survey was conducted for this study with high school students in Busan City and a total of 268 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. For the analysis, frequency analysis and x2 cross tabulation analysis were utilized. Following are the findings from the analysis .First, the major play activities were watching TV, computer games, surfing the Internet, and taking a nap. In most cases, the place for these activities was indoors, such as at home and in a karaoke room. The play activities took place mainly in indoor places and most activities were static and passive. Second, the satisfaction level with the activities was analyzed. There was insufficient time to play weekdays due to the tight schedule of school life. Although there was time for play on the weekends, there was a shortage of facilities and space in which they could enjoy leisure activities. Third, the reason that youths do engage in activities is to relieve stress and to change a depressed mood; and, they were using play as a tool to escape from routine life and relieve the stress of their routines, not as creative activities for pleasure. Fourth, the youths wanted their parents and adults to provide facilities and space for play activities and economic support. Fifth, the youths demanded play space for relieving stress, and the space for learning new experiences and gaining new knowledge, along with diverse facilities and an environment for getting along with their friends and doing cooperated activities.
