The purpose of this thesis is to criticize the previous teaching methods of classical poetry and to find out the right methods suitable to today's situation. The previous methods were teacher-oriented: students wrote down and memorized what teachers explained and then took exams for good grades. They made students passive. There are many differences between today's education and the previous one. In this thesis focusing on today's education, freedom and creativity of both students and teachers are directed to be fully exhibited and literary ability is supposed to be extended by reading substantial works and practicing writing original works. That is, the methods are student-oriented. From this viewpoint, the teaching methods of classical poetry that are suitable to today's education based on the aesthetic theory are designed in this thesis. In the range of High school Korean and literature textbooks, 7 popular classical poems put in this thesis were selected as teaching materials. The 7 poems were 2 antient classical poems-Gongmoodohaga and Jeongeupsa, one of Hyangga-Jemangmaega, 2 popular Korea ballads-Gasiri and Cheongsanbyeolgok, one of Gasa in Chosun Dynasty-Gwandongbyeolgok and A Korean verse-Eobusasisa. 5 teaching methods like comparing, using parady, arranging, changing words, and using image and pictures were presented. By adapting 2 selected methods to each poem, its teaching plan was organized. In studying Gwandongbyeolgok, comparing was usually used and students watched the screen of a lantern slide. Parady was used in the study of Cheongsanbyeolgok. In learning Gongmoodohaga, the emotion of its poetic speaker was compared. And perceiving that classical poetry itself was a song, students were made to observe similarities and differences among classical poetry, modern poems and popular songs. The advantages of this method were to make students motivated and interested in class and to lead them to actively participate in the study. Concentrating on learners' interest, many games and song were added. Some people could wonder whether teachers can evaluate students in an established way through this teaching method. The improvement of students' grades depends on students' interest. If students show interest in class and positively take part in the study, their grades will be improved by degrees regardless of the evaluating means. Another problem is the shortage of time. Because of the progress of classwork, it is very difficult for students to do a variety of activities. So, I think that if we used the time of discretionary and special activity, that would be possible. Through these efforts, I hope the teaching methods of classical poetry will be developed and people's recognition of it will be changed like this: classical literature is familiar to us, not far from us, very interesting and valuable. Therefore, we must not ignore we have a literary duty that we must succeed to the classical works and continue to develop them.
