This thesis is study on the education of Hwarangdo shown on the 『Hwarangsegi』. Since the finding of 『Hwarangsegi』 in 1989, many scholars have studied about it. While Japanese scholars distorted Hwarangdo, Korean scholars couldn't do accurate research for lack of historical resources. Through 『Hwarangsegi』, I studied on education by Hwarangdo which played a great role in uniting three nations by Si11a. In the first chapter, reasons for writing this thesis, object, research methods and scope were described. In the second chapter, the origin and organization of Hwarangdo and the characteristics of its organization were described. The origin of Hwarangdo had started just as Wonhwa(源花) performed an ancestral sacrifice for Shingung(神宮). But, after Wonhwa had been abolished, Hwarangdo was adopted and then they tried their best to cultivate their character and improve their skill(道義硏磨). The external reason of Hwarangdo adoption was from conflict between Nammo(南毛) and Junjung(俊貞), but actually it was connected with the situation at that period. Domestically, they needed Hwarangdo as any organization for strengthening regal power in stead of Shingung's ancestral sacrifice. Externally, they needed to get Hwarangdo as an organization for training Musa(武士) in order to defend themselves. In 『Hwarangsegi』, Hwarangdo was really different and specific from other data. The organization of Hwarangdo is called Nangdobukok(郎徒部曲). Nangdobukok was composed of Pungwolju(風月主), who was the head of Hwarangdo, Buje(副弟), Nangdu(郎頭) and Nangdo(郎徒). The special thing of Nangdobukok is that the organization of Hwarangdo was not composed of only men. There were some women (for instance, Hwaju(花主), Bonghwa(奉花), Yuhwa(遊花), Wonhwa) related to Hwarang. Nangdobukok was made by these principle. It has the characteristic of Samsubunhwa(三數分化). These characteristic of Samsubunhwa is based on two principles. One is Samchundanbu(三千團部) of Hwanwoog(桓雄) in Dangun(檀君) myth of 『Samgukjusa』(『三國遺事』). The other is beads and Samtaeguk(三太極) which was inlaid in the decorated sword that was found in the tomb of Michjuwang(味鄒王) in Hwangnamdong(皇南洞) Gyeongju(慶州) Gyeongbuk(慶北). The characteristic of the organization of Hwarangdo was a group which was composed of Ui[義], Jung[情] and Ji[志]. Jung has a very important role in 『Hwarangsegi』. Without Jung, Hwarangdo can't interact with their Nangdo. The second most important thing was Ui. Jung without Ui can't find its right way. Thus, in the organization of Hwarangdo, Ui has an important meaning along with Jung. And Ji has an important meaning, too. Even though a Zigizisa(志氣之士), who had a Zihyungchu(志向處), considered the Jung, he would never lose the aim and go forward to the Zihyungchu with comrades. So they faced their comrades with Jung, but they would never commit something Bului(不義). Eventually, Hwarangdo used even Jung as a helper to go forward to the same aim like the ship to the same destination. Thirdly, this is about the education of Hwarangdo. The education purpose of Hwarangdo is to foster men of ability who can work for the nation and its society. The education of Hwarangdo had a very important role in coming forth many men of ability with both knowledge and martial arts. There had been various kinds of fields in the education of Hwarangdo. We can know that through Doui(道義), Munsa(文事), Musa, Hyunmyo(玄妙), Aksa(樂事), Yesa(藝事), Yuhwa, Jesa(祭事), Gongsa(供事). The method of education of Hwarangdo was a kind of apprentice. The foundation of education was Jung. An organization which was united with Jung can get a great power. And they learned by moving around the nation. Moreover, they got a nature-friendly education. Through the worship in Nangjung(郎政) which were in around the nation, they came to learn piety ceremony. Fourthly, I would like to mention some helpful points of ethics education through the education of Hwarangdo. I searched what meaning could collaboration education and education based on practice through the education of Hwarangdo give to ethics education.
