It is very sure that business management will have to focus on speediness and effectiveness in the 21st century. Cooperative manufacturing models centering on an effective value chain between the first and second suppliers have considerable influence over the whole automobile manufacturing industry. Consequently, it is true that oversupply is emerging as one of the inevitable core problems in the global information society. In particular, the enterprises, whose internal businesses have been made efficient to some extent, started to construct a system to exchange information with external organizations so that the former may pursue the optimization of their resources. Such changes introduce the concept of SCM (Supply Chain Management) in order to optimize supply networks for enterprises. SCM is a strategic thought to optimize the flow of logistics, process, and information in the supply chain covering from suppliers to customers, so as to secure the core competence of enterprises and improve their cash flow. The introduction of SCM will reduce unnecessary stockpile and distribution and supply costs and enable an enterprise to strategically cooperate with the third distributors and concentrate its energies on its core fields, so that it constructs a global network system to consolidate its competitiveness. Especially, the introduction of SCM into the automobile industry will innovate the distribution of automobiles in a cost effective way so that the price competitiveness of finished car producers may be heightened and, resultantly, automobile export improved. This study investigates into the automobile industry, where finished car producers are supplied with sub-assemblies from the first, second, and third suppliers. Also, in the industry, the production connection between parent company and child companies is very strong, so it is really important to manage supply networks for them. In this regard, the present author decided to examine the major factors that may affect the supply distribution and production distribution sectors while effective methods to apply SCM to the industry are being hammered out. The major factors were derived from the business improvement cases of S automobile company. S automobile company has an effective supply system which comprises a single axis of the five functions (information, depot, loading and unloading, transportation, and packing) of the assembly supply distribution, considering Japanese advanced logistics techniques and Korean logistics infrastructures. First, in the information sector, the company simply operates an exclusive system for supply distribution, which all of its partner companies can use as well. The company utilizes as its network KAMA (KNX) which all finished car producers use so that goods may shipped at any place. Information on the supply of assemblies is sent through MRP to assembly makers in (four months, one month, 10 days, or one day) advance. Ordering information is sent each day, 10 days, or each month depending upon the kinds of assemblies. Second, packing is executed in accordance with the standardization and functionality of containers. Third, a unit load system has been constructed to mechanize loading and unloading operations. Fourth, the cost of transportation can be reduced through joint transportation, for which payment is alternately made by each region or district. Fifth, depots or halfway logistics strongholds are utilized to reduce the logistics cost and secure safe stock through joint transportation so as to steadily supply assemblies and maintain stable production. Lastly, in addition to the above-said five functions of logistics, S company introduces and applies new automobile production concepts, that is, modularization and synchronization. A module means a unit of neighboring and related assemblies set up for each section of an automobile. Saving the time to supply products and services to final consumers is no less important than reducing production costs. Therefore, the concept of Lean Production should be introduced into supply networks for finished car producers and assembly producers. Moreover, it is necessary to intensively place orders for systems and modules so that the number of the first producers may be decreased and assemblies producers made larger, and it is also needed that new specialized large assemblies producers need enter the industry. Introducing module production for Lean SCM will reduce production lead time, processing cost, manufacturing cost, stock maintaining cost, stock managing cost, and ordering cost. Module-unit Lean Production can reduce the cost to distribute assemblies since it will decrease the number of assembly stockpile and storing places, assembly companies, and assemblies to store and greatly reduce the time and cost to set up modules. In addition, modules can be designed in such a way as to integrate the functions of some assemblies or apply new materials so that the weight of cars, which is closely related to gasoline mileage, will be reduced. Meanwhile, it is proved that modularization is very effective in reducing production costs and improving product qualities and manufacturing technologies. Modularization lifts the degree of design freedom so as to encourage technology innovation and ensures designs and tests to be implemented under the responsibility of such assembly producers as are equipped with expertise and specializing in specific fields, so that final qualities may be stabilized. Furthermore, modularization reduces the probability of problems taking placing due to a decrease in the number of assemblies, enables quick actions to be taken in case such problems happen, and facilitates close relationship in technological cooperation between finished car producers and assemblies producers. In general, modularization maximizes the profit of finished cars. The contributions Lean deliveries make to the automobile industry are derived from the Synchronous Sequential Production system. The whole production process of finished car producers and assemblies producers depends upon assemblies to be delivered at an opportune time. So, clear demarcation need be made in relation to delivery duties. In order to ensure sequential Lean Production, module producers need successively deliver assemblies to meet the set up process of finished car producers. It calls for assembly deliveries to be made at an appropriate time. In addition, a cooperative assembly supply system need be constructed through placing multiple orders as in global sourcing, establishing an open trade system transcending group affiliation, and activating the sharing of information, because the automobile industry is entering a network competition age.
