This study was conducted to investigate the effects of skin pressure exerted by foundation on physiological responses and subjective sensory evaluation. Nineteen females volunteered as subjects. The experiment was carried out in a climate chamber of 27±1℃, 50±10% RH, 0.1m/sec. Experimental foundation were girdle and brassiere whose size were 70B, 70C, 75B and 75C, the size of which was widely distributed in pilot test. After resting for about 30min, VO2 and heart rate while subjects were naked and wearing only brassiere, both brassiere and soft type girdle, only soft type girdle and hard type girdle for 10min respectively were measured and after that clothing pressure and blood flow were measured and subjective sensory test was performed. Clothing pressure used air pack system was measured at 5 points in brassiere and 7 points in the girdle. Blood flow was measured at the fore finger and a big toe by laser flowmeter. VO2 and heart rate were measured by Quark b2 and Polar S610TM respectively. The results of this study are as follows; 1. In clothing pressure exerted by brassiere, the pressure of strap may give comfort to subjects since the pressure of strap was the highest despite they controlled the strap by themselves. In clothing pressure exerted by girdle, the pressure of region where waist line and middle axillary line cross was the highest, which is more than 40g/㎠, the permitted limit of clothing pressure. The thigh whose pressure was high was evaluated not to be tight likewise the strap in brassiere. 2. As the results of blood flow in the physiological responses, blood flow of finger was higher than toe. The values with experimental foundations were significantly lower than without foundations. Hard type girdle was significantly low compared to nude(p<0.05) and wearing both brassiere and soft type girdle and wearing soft type girdle was significantly low compared to wearing brassiere(p<0.01) in the blood flow of toe. This means girdle influences blood flow than brassiere. As the results of VO2, the value of hard type girdle was lower than others. Although VO2 was not statistically significant between nude and wearing foundations, hard type girdle may influence VO2 than other foundations. Therefore human body may have a bad influence by dropping O2 in the cel-lular tissue because VO2 was reduced due to much skin pressure exerted by foundation. As the results of heart rate, wearing a brassiere and a soft type girdle were significantly low compared to nude(p<0.05), wearing both brassiere and soft type girdle was significantly low compared to nude(p<0.01) and wearing hard type girdle was significantly low compared to nude(p<0.001). The values of heart rate of wearing foundations was lower than without foundations, therefore much skin pressure exerted by foundation may influences movement of heart and blood flow may be reduced. 3. As the results of brassiere's subjective sensory test, strap was the most comfortable part contrary to the results of clothing pressure and the region where underbust line and scapular line cross can give comfort to subjects and they can feel tight in spite of a little pressure in the back parts of brassiere. As the results of girdle, subjects felt tight a lot in the region where waist line and center front line cross contrary to the result of clothing pressure which was not high. However, thigh whose pressure was high was evaluated not to be tight. Therefore I found there were much different between clothing pressure measured and subjective sensation.
