우선 조용한 환경에서 이명의 인지를 살펴보고 순음청력검사, 고막운동성계측, 변조이음향방사검사, 전기와우도검사, 청성뇌간반응검사를 편안한 자세(resting, R), 최대로 입을 벌린 자세(maximally open the mouth, O), 이를 꽉 깨문 자세(clench the teeth together as forcefully as possible, C)로 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 관찰하였다.

Objective : To investigate the effects of the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) displacement, auditory function was observed through human subjects of normal hearing by evaluating changes in their hearing function test. This was to gather more knowledge for the study of the relation TMJ with ear problem and tinnitus. Materials and Method : The 30 subjects(male; 15, female; 15, 60 ears) with normal hearing hearing were informed and consented to participate in this study. The testing materials were pure tone audiometry (PTA), tympanometry, distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE), electrocochleography (ECoG), and auditory brainstem response (ABR). Each of them was carried out three positions for the testing : mouth at resting position (R), maximally opening the mouth (O), clenching the teeth together as forcefully as possible (C). Depending of each position and related TMJ displacement, the perception of a certain sound or tinnitus was observed when the particpants were in the sound proofed room. Result : 1. About 73.3% reported the perception of certain sounds within 10minutes. In R position, the generative regions were both ears (40.0%), intracranial portion (13.3%), right ear (13.3%), and left ear (6.7%). In O positon, they were both ears (46.7%), intracranial portion (16.7%), right ear (10.0%), and left ear (10.0%). And they were both ears (53.3%), intracranial portion (13.3%), left ear (13.3%), and right ear (6.7%) in C position.
The characteristics of tinnitus were expressed as high pitched (16.7%), wind - like (16.7%), pulsatile (16.7%), ringing (13.3%), low pitched (10.0%) sounds in R position. In O position, the sounds were expressed as pulsatile (20.0%), high pitched (20.0%), wind-like (13.3%), low pitched (13.3%), ringing (10.0%) sounds, and others (6.7%). In C position, wind-like (23.3%), ringing (16.7%), pulsatile (13.3%), high pitched (13.3%), low pitched (10.0%) sounds, and others (10.0%) were expressed. And about 83.3% showed changes in tinnitus by TMJ displacement.
2. PTA showed statistical significance at 250 and 4000 Hz in each position and pure tone average (500, 1000, 2000, 4000Hz) showed borderline significance in statistical analysis.
3. ECV of tympanometry test was recorded 1.09 ± 0.23㎖ in R position, 1.08 ± 0.23㎖ in O Position, and 1.08 ± 0.23㎖ in C Position. But they were not significant statistically.
4. DP/NF, results of DPOAE, showed statistical significance only at 141 Hz which might not be meaning for.
5. The absolute amplitudes of SP and AP, and SP/AP ratio were not observed significantly in statistical analysis.
6. In evaluating of ABR, both V wave absolute amplitude and II-III inter latency were recorded significantly in statistical analysis.
Conclusion : O and C positions induced TMJ displacement, which might bring effects on functions of outer ear, middle ear, inner ear, and nerve fibers. Results of some auditory function tests were changed by TMJ movement. Especially the results of ABR might be a proof of 'neurological models for somatic tinnitus'. Therefore, TMJ movement possibly could be considered when auditory function test and evaluation of tinnitus performed. If relations of between tinnitus generation and results of ABR are clarified, tinnitus problem could be resolved further. And more data should be gathered for additional TMJ related researches in the future.
