Research Triangle Park. NC. 이후 Ansys 5.7(Swanson Analysis Systems, Inc., Huston, PA, U.S.A.)

Cycle pedaling is repetitive motion by muscle power of lower extremity. The driving force occurs through (by) the load transmission from foot to pedal. Major factors of cycling performance are physical strength, saddle height, and crank length (and so on). There were biomechanical studies(researches by) measuring pressure and power of foot-shoe interface during cycle pedaling. Those studies validated the biomechanical influences to cyclists in variable types of cycle design. Recently, the difference of energy transmission from lower extremities to cycle pedals as bending stiffness of cycle shoes changes was studied. In this study, finite element models of human foot and cycle shoes were developed to predict the cycle pedaling performance as changes of shoe bending stiffness and shoe attaching position. Finite element models were validated with reference data and result of experimental test. The geometry of foot FE(finite element) model was based on the CT(computed tomography) data(slice thickness=1mm) of right foot(174 Cm, 74Kg, 28 aged, male) with no medical history within last 5years. Three-dimensional model reconstruction in computational model wasprocessed by Geomagic Studio 4.0(Raindrop Geomagic Inc. Research Triangle Park. NC. USA) and foot plantar soft tissue and cartilage were added and Ansys 5.7(Swanson Analysis Systems, inc., Huston, PA, U.S.A.) was used to make finite element model. Morphological and biomechanical model was validated. Material properties were adapted from previous research reference. Cycle shoe FE model was based on the CAD data served by cycle shoe manufacturing company. Cycle shoe outsole was made of carbon fiber composite known as a good type of material for force transmission from human lower extremities to cycle pedals. Material properties were calculated by softwarebased on classic lamination theory(CLT). Carbon composite material property had anisotropic character. But, CLT based software can regard that as isotropic material. To validate the cycle shoe FE model, product failure bending test was proceeded. Cycle shoe bending stiffness of two types of cycle shoes(M-125, R-225, Shimano, Japan)and in-shoe plantar pressure during pedaling were measured to verify the relationship between cycle shoe stiffness and pedaling performance. Bending stiffness test was based on ASTM F911 test protocol. In-shoe plantar pressure data were collected with non-trained cyclists(N=5, height=170±4.8Cm, 72±5.4Kg) have no clinical history in the lower extremities in the recent 3years. Pedaling R.P.M. is maintained for 10 seconds(R.P.M.=90) during data collection. Plantar pressure data were collected using an F-scan(Tekscan Inc., South Boston, MA, U.S.A.) instrument. Peak plantar pressure data of five time's repetitions were averaged with two types of cycle shoes. Finite element analysis were proceeded with various type of shoe profile models and cleat attaching positions and peak von mises stress results wereobserved in the forefoot region caused by applied loads and boundary conditions. Cycle shoe FE model was validated with experimental load-displacement results(300N-87.74%, 500N-97.24%) well. Vertical von mises stresses were decreased in the both of profile design modified modelcompared with basic model. In the finite element analysis with various cleat positions of non-modified outsole profile design, significant high vertical von mises stress was observed in the model of neutral cleat position compared with both forwardand backward cleat positioned models. In the case of 5mm positive outsole profile modified design, there was no significantdifference of vertical von mises stress value between neutral and 5mm forward cleat positioned model but, significant decrease of vertical von mises stress was observed in the 5mm backward cleat positioned model. In the case of 5mm negative outsole profile modified design, significant decrease of vertical von mises stress wasobserved in the 5mm forward cleat positioned model compared with neutral and 5mm backward cleat positioned model. In this study, comparative high foot plantar pressure was observed in carbon composite material outsole with ultra high stiffness than poly urethane material outsole. Based on the previous research, we supposed that high pressure in the plantar forefoot region means good force transmission during cycle pedaling. From this hypothesis, vertical von mises stress in the foot-shoe interface of cycle shoe part was determined to the factor of cycling performance prediction. And, we suggested the cycle shoe FE model with high vertical von mises stress as a performance improvable design. In addition to this study, FE analysis about more various profile angles and cleat attaching positions are needed. In this study, computer simulation of cycle pedaling was limited at a point of maximum peak contact pressure occurred in the plantar forefoot region. In the future study, dynamic simulation of cycle pedaling motion with cycle and human musculoskeletal system model is needed for the more similar analysis to real cycle pedaling.
