This study was attempted to determine how children perceive their parent's child rearing behaviors and sibling relationship, and how these affected children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness. Since early childhood behavioral problems might lead to juvenile delinquency as they involved abnormal peer groups, it should be dealt with from preventive perspectives. In addition, this study was aiming at offering parents helpful materials needed in addressing their child's sibling relationship by providing new perspectives to sibling relationship as well as parent child relationship, and teachers could utilize this for parents teaching and student counseling. The two questions that were addressed in this study were as follows. Study question 1. What are the general characteristics of parent's child rearing behaviors, sibling relationship, and children's behavioral problems? 1) What is the characteristic of parent's child rearing behaviors? 2) What is the characteristic of sibling relationship? 3) What is the characteristic of children's behavioral roblems? Study question 2. How children's behavioral problems are related with parent's child rearing behaviors and sibling relationship? 1) What is the relationship between parent's child rearing behaviors and children's behavioral problems? 2) What is the relationship between sibling relationship and children's behavioral problems? The subjects of this study were sampled from each three schools of east area and west area, centered on Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, in consideration of the number of residents, location of schools, and number of students per class by school. Third graders and sixth graders were selected because they were in the concrete operational period and the formal operational period. Responses of a total of 387 students who had sibling relationship from 12 classes (sampled one class per grade from each three schools) were used for the analysis. A self report questionnaire was used as an instrument, and it included 80 questions of parents' child rearing behaviors scale modified by Park Yeong Ae (1995), 48 questions of sibling relationship scale, 38 questions of impulsiveness scale translated and modified by Lee Bo Geong (2000), and 66 questions of aggressiveness scale translated and modified by Park Soeng Yeon (2002). SPSS Win 12.0 program was used to analyze the data, and a series of statistical tests were conducted including frequency analysis, reliability test, t test, correlationship analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, children mostly perceived that their parents were warm and acceptive. They perceived their mother more rejective and punitive than their father, while they perceived their father more permissive and neglective than their mother. It is considered that it is resulted from how parents take care of their children in this modern society in that mother play a main role of rearing and father only take part in there like a bystander. Second, Even though the levels of children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness were not severe, children's perceived impulsiveness was stronger than aggressiveness. However, of the sub factors of impulsiveness, the levels of cognitive impulsiveness and affective impulsiveness were not neglectable. Third, in the relationship of parent's child rearing behaviors and children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness, parent's warmth and acceptiveness was seen to have a tendency to reduce children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness, but mother's rejection and punishment and father's permissiveness and neglect was seen to develop children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness. Based on these results, when parent's child rearing behaviors were compared between groups, it suggests that mother's rejection and punishment and father's permissiveness and neglect of which children perceived highly will lead to children's impulsiveness and aggressiveness and make it worse, and parent's warmth and acceptiveness of which children perceived not so highly also could contribute to children's behavioral problems. Fourth, overall scores of sibling relationship were average, of them, factor of relative position was the highest, and factor of conflict was the lowest. However, scores of warmth and intimacy showing their perception of sibling relationship as very close and being loved were not high, showing few siblings common in nuclear family in this modern society is not desirable. Fifth, in the analysis of relationship between children's sibling relationship and children's behavioral problems, it was concluded that conflicts and quarrels between siblings could contribute to their impulsiveness or aggressiveness. In the meanwhile, if children perceive the sibling relationship as warm and intimate, in which one sibling takes care of other sibling or controls (relative position), and one is being loved more than other siblings reduce impulsiveness or aggressiveness. In conclusion, parent's child rearing behaviors and sibling relationship will certainly play a important role in understanding the development of children's behavioral problems and identifying them, children's behavioral problems such as their impulsiveness or aggressiveness are affected by relationships with different sub structures, not only by a single outer stimulation such as parent and child relationship. In addition, it suggests that sibling's perception, emotion, and behaviors in relation with children's behavioral problems should be considered within the context of the relationships with other sub structures. It is considered that this will help parents to take appropriate action with regard to their children's sibling relationship and teachers to utilize for parents teaching and student counseling.
