Fantasias in the Romantic period are basically following the form of sonata but weigh more on literary imagination, compared to those pieces from the Classic period of 18th century. Frantz Schubert composed 4 fantasia for piano: 「C minor Largo D.993」 in 1812, 「Fantasy in C major D.605」, so-called Grazer Fantasie, composed somewhere in between 1821-1823, 「Fantasie in G minor D.48」 in 1811, and 「「Wanderer Fantasy op.15」」. Schubert composed 「「Wanderer Fantasy op.15」」 which he composed at his age of 23 in 1822, and used the melody and accompaniment from his song 「Der Wandere」 composed in 1816 as its main theme in every movements, which constitutes the cyclic musical element method. This study is basically to suggest an appropriate musical interpretation for performance of 「「Wanderer Fantasy op.15」」, by comparing 4 different editions of it. Also, In this study, based on the structure of piano at that time, basic concept of musical interpretation was re-analysed by comparing vortragsbezeichnungen (musical signs for performance) such as staccato or dynamics or tempo in each edition. For example, dynamic mark in each edition follows different interpretation, which is prompted mainly by an ambiguous sign that is hard to tell whether it means decrescendo or accent, found in Schubert's manuscript. When Schujusha edition sees it as an accent, Henle and Schott see the same thing as decrescendo. In appendix, using musical records, two different performances, given by Kissin and Richter compared and analyzed. There are two reasons why this analysis was not included in the main discourse. First, It is possible that each performance given by the vary same person can make different interpretation of performance under various environments (eg. humidity or the size of a music hall). Second, analytical opinion obtained can provoke a serious academic credibility issue in the field. For the result, of the comparing two musical records Schubert「「Wanderer Fantasy op.15」」with fortissimo and pianissimo, Richter conveyed narrower range of dynamic then Kissin. Also Richter gives deeper and longer pedaling to make richer sound effect whereas Kissin prefers short pedaling for cleaner sound. The times took for each performance differ only by 30 seconds in the first and second movement and are almost the same in the third and forth movement. That's because whenever there is a change of motive or key, Kissin would use tempo rubato technique.
