The purpose of this study is to analyze the nutritional status for gastric cancer patients after gastrectomy by measuring the anthropometric data, biomedical data and food intakes by 24hr recall method. 23 operative gastric cancer patients participated in this study and their nutritional status are assessed before the surgery, before discharge, and 1 · 3 months after discharge. Based on the questions patients want to know, there is a guidance for the meals for gastric cancer patients. This study results are summarized as follows. The subjects of this study were 15 male and 8 female post operative gastric cancer patients. Their ages ranged from 37 to 71, and the average age was 55.04±10.98 years. The subjects total gastrectomy were 15 and subtotal gastrectomy were 8. And the subjects were divided two sample proportion of groups who got chemotherapy 12 and non chemotherapy 11. The average usual body weight was 67.3±12.77kg. At the discharge, the average body weight was 63.89±11.37kg. At 1 month after the discharge, the average body weight was 60.81±12.08kg. And at 3 month after the discharge, the average body weight was 60.44±11.86kg. It showed a significant decrease after the discharge from 67.3±12.77 to 60.44±11.86(p<0.0001).As the blood profiles, Serum albumin(p<0.0001), TLC(p<0.05), cholesterol(p<0.001) are significant except Total protein, BUN, Creatinine, WBC, Ca, P. Hemoglobin(p<0.0001), Hematocrit(p<0.0001), MCHC (p<0.05) are significant except MCV, MCH.The average daily food intakes by 24hr recall are 835.42±351.25kcal after the discharge. At 1 month after the discharge, average daily food intakes are 1296.14±381.69kcal and at 3 month after the discharge, daily food intakes are 1659.81±501.82kcal. It showed a significant increase(p<0.0001). As time goes by, not only the quantity but also the quality was been better by increasing in the amount and kinds of the food intake. In spite of the such increase, it can be found that the responders' weight was decreased constantly. The expected reasons of this result are that the required energy level after the discharge was being higher than before the discharge and that the amount of the food intakes after the discharge was not enough to maintain the required energy after the discharge. There are some questions and answers what subjects want to know by the tele-consultation. The most frequent question about the available food to eat was the 58.6%, the side effects and symptoms after gastrectomy was the 12.3% and the health and functional food was the 9%. There were also the other questions, the principles of meal, recipes, restricted foods, and so on.1) There are some differences in the available foods to eat according to the patients. So it is necessary for nutritionists to explain the individual variation on the tolerable foods depending on the patient's case.2) Hospital's staff is required to explain about the side effect and the syndrome after the gastrectomy to the patients. In addition, they should make and maintain the communication network to care for their patients constantly.3) Nutritionists should let their patients know that the health and functional foods are for healthy people and the purpose of that is to prevent the disease and promote their health. It should be emphasized that the well-balanced diet is more important than the health and functional foods for the gastric cancer patients after gastrectomy.4) The patients have the lowest quality of life right after gastrectomy. So it is necessary not only to give information of diet but also to reduce patient's anxiety.
