This study was intended to investigate the differences in recognition about integrated education by groups, analyzing the recognition of main participants in integrated education including special teachers, integrated education teachers, the parents of disabled students and the parents of general students, focused on the subordinate items such as the reality of the management of integrated education, the problems of the management of integrated education and the improvement measures for the management of integrated education. The objects of the paper were 162 elementary schools, which had special classes and executed integrated education, located in Suwon, Ansan, Anyang, Yongin in Gyeonggi-do under Gyeonggi-do Provincial Office of Education. A survey of special teachers, integrated education teachers, the parents of disabled students and general students was conducted from Jan. 2006 to Feb. 2006, and total 363 questionnaires were used for the analysis. Technology analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA) were applied to analyze collected data. The results of the study were summarized as follows. 1. Comparison of the recognition about the management of integrated education according to population-sociological factors among the groups After the objects were population-sociologically compared among groups, it was found that 88.3% of participants were women, and 46.3% graduated from university. 34.6% of integrated education teachers had less than 1 year career. There was no significant different recognition about the management of integrated education including the reality of the management of integrated education, the problems and improvement measures by the population-sociological variables among the groups. 2. Differences in the level of recognition about the management of integrated education among the groups The subordinate items in the reality of the management of integrated education, problems and improvement measures were classified and examined to understand whether there was a difference in the level of recognition about the management of integrated education by groups. First, there was a proposition that integrated education was essential to both disabled and general students, and also would be more effective than separated education. The subordinate items on the reality of the management of integrated education showed the attitude of the objects toward the proposition. The parents of disabled students were more positive than other groups, but the parents of general students were quite negative, showing a significant difference. Second, although the parents of general students admitted that integrated education was necessary in terms of ethics, they were very sensitive to direct harm to their children. Moreover, they much more worried that teacher's affection or attention to their children could be dispersed due to disabled students, class could be interrupted by disabled students, or disabled students could raise more problems in class than other groups including integrated education teachers, special teacher and the parents of disabled students. Third, for the improvement measures of the management of integrated education, integrated education teachers and parents of general students were positive to separated education for special education, showing a considerable difference from other groups. In general, special teachers and disabled students presented similar average scores. Special teachers and the parents of disabled students usually indicated that integrated, in the similar level, teachers should have responsibility and professionalism, but integrated education teachers and the parents of general students presented a meaningful difference. There was a big difference in separated education like special school to improve more effects on integrated education between special teachers and the parents of general students. Based on the above results, several proposals were suggested. First, there should be the community efforts of diverse parties to overcome the differences of recognition about integrated education. Besides teachers and parents, professionals and related people in local community who are working on other treatment educations, counseling should be encouraged to cooperate with school to fill the substantial needs of disabled and general students for school life. Second, diverse approach should be prepared, for example, relevant subjects to special education become required subjects in general educational university and training for integrated education is more encouraged. Those approaches would help teachers to obtain higher ability as integrated teachers managing class for social integration of disabled students, and preparing for the relationship with friends. Third, the parents of general students need more intensive education about integrated education. Furthermore, there should be an opened place for the parents of disabled student and general students to communicate each other, which would reduce the differences of recognition according to their positions. Fourth, there should be more efforts and studies on the increase in convenient facilities, the extension of integrated education and instructional integrated education for easier access to the school of disabled students and their convenience based on the administrative and financial support. Finally, although researchers have relied on survey research for studies on generalized integrated education of disabled students, now it is necessary to develop a standardized recognition measurement instrument and to study qualitative research.
