School violence gives growing youth mental and physical damage and aversion of interpersonal relation. Especially, the assailant and the inflicted are students, which makes it difficult to solve. The reason lies in that education and judicial justice conflict, so the parents of the assailant and the inflicted, collide with one another to protect their children. Also the mental damage of the damaged is more serious than the assailant that it has a big effect on school life and social life. Likewise, it is a problem adversely affecting all of the assailant and the inflicted, so that it looks like that we can seek a solution only after making out the extent of the level of school violence in the actual school scene. Thus, this main aim of this research is to explore students' recognition and violent act to the violence type and status in middle and high school. With research data gathering data, this researcher met questionnaire subjects in person and conducted a questionnaire survey in collaboration with schools and teachers. The subjects were to male students of middle and high schools in Seoul, and total 900 copies of questionnaire sheets were given out, 182 of which were analyzed. The collected data were processed using statistical programs, SPSS WIN(Ver.12.0), frequency, percentage, Χ2 verification etc. The findings of this research are summed up as follows. 1) 40.7% of the youth responding to school violence think that the problem of school violence is not serious, which was not different with demographic specialities (schooling, marks, economic level, parents' schooling, residential type, religion). 2) The school violence type thought by students to be serious were teachers' corporal punishment(29.4%), threat, abuse and other verbal violence, physical violence(between friends (22.9%) respectively, and backmailing of money and other valuables and group outcasting (10.0%) respectively, which showed a bit difference compared to the physical violence (27.4%) of school violence types according to the surveyed results of status report of school violence 2007. 3) 26.4% of respondents were examined to be experienced in school violence, the frequency of which was over 15 times (35.9%), 1 or 2 times(30.8%), 3 or 5 times and 6 or -10 times (15.4%). The occurrence place of school violence was the highest in school(69.0%), and experience of deprived of objects was none(82.1%), and existent(17.9%). The experience of threatened was existent (16.9%), threatening assailant was mainly one of the same grade (48.4%), one senior and some seniors (19.4%) respectively, and some of he same grade and some juniors (6.5%) respectively. 4) The question of seriousness of group outcasting in school indicated that rarely none and ordinarily(36.6%) respectively, some serious(14.3%), very serious(7.1%), other(5.4%). One one hand, the types of the assailants of group outcasting indicated that one of the same grade(41.9%), some of the same grade and others (25.8%) respectively, and one senior and some seniors (3.2%) respectively. However, recognition to the status of school violence does not show any particular difference by youth's demo-sociological specialities(schooling, marks, economic level, parents' schooling, residential type and religion). 5) The response analysis on help request at occurrence of school violence problem indicated that there was none(79.6%), existent(20.4%), one the other hand, the response analysis on help subject indicated that it was teachers(33.3%), friends and other (26.7%) respectively, and parents and counsellors(6.7%) respectively.
