The following findings were revealed from this survey on selected sample comprised two hundred thirty-two elementary school students and their parents in order to provide basic data for instruction to student's desirable eating habits and patterns through investigating the present status of their instant food ingestion and its subsequent problems as well as parent's perception on children's food ingestion habits. Sex composition of sample students questioned was 49.6% for male, and 50.4% for female. In composition of farther's occupations, 44.5% of them were workers for lower grades(1th-3th), and 35.8% for higher grades(4the-6th). But in case of mother, 93.8% of them were housewife. The result derived from the investigation of the level of parent's education was that in case of fathers, 'graduated from high school' was 64.4% of them, and 'graduated from college' was 31.6% for lower grades, but 64.8%, 25.3%, for higher grades, respectively. In case of mother, 'graduated from college' was 18.9% for lower grades, and 25.3% for higher grades, which means that the education level of higher grades' mothers is higher than that of lower grades' mothers. As the source of economic revenues, 'from father' was 56.3% for lower grades, and 36.4% for higher grades, and also 'from both father and mother' was 51.4%, 29.4%, respectively. And in most cases mothers prepared for the meal. To the question about whether the constant time has been spent taking meal or not, more students answered as follows in order: almost constant, always constant, sometimes irregular, very irregular. To the question about how long it has taken to take dinner, more lower grade students answered as follows in order: fifteen-twenty minutes(55.4%), more than twenty minutes(23.1%), less than fifteen minutes(21.5%). And more higher grade students answered as follows in order: fifteen minutes-twenty minutes(69.4%), less than fifteen minutes(23.4%), more than twenty minutes(7.2%). Thus it was statistically significant at significance level p<.01 that lower grade students spend longer time on taking dinner than higher grade students. For the reason of having unbalanced diet, the answers of most students shared either 'not delicious' or 'have not ever eaten them' in similar number, respectively, and more lower grades have usually had unbalanced diet for the latter reason than higher grades. Most favorite foods of lower grades having unbalanced diet were followed as meats, vegetables, ham/sausage, fishes, fried foods in order of favorite. And those of higher grades were as follows in order: vegetables, meats, ham/sausage, fishes, fried food. More higher grade students preferred to vegetables than lower grades. The result revealed from student's food preference according to their sex was that most favorite of male students were as follows in order: meats, vegetables, ham/sausage, fishes, fried food. And that of female students were followed as vegetables, ham/sausage, meats, fishes, fried food in order of preference and the difference between them was statistically significant at significance level p<.05. To the question about how often they have enjoyed milk products, more lower students answered as follows in order: everyday, three-four times a week, one-two times a month, one-two times a week, none. And more higher grades answered as follows in order: everyday, three-four times a week, one-two times a week, one-two times a month, none. Also the difference between both grade students was statistically significant at significance level p<.05. In the question about their frequency of boiled rice and cereal ingestion, the ranking order of students' answers was as follows: in case of lower grades, three-four times a week, one-two times a week, one-two times a month, none, and in case of higher grades, everyday, three-four times a week, one-two times a week, one-two times a month, none. And this difference was statistically significant at significance level p<.01. In conclusion, the ingesting habits of elementary school students was mostly influenced by their parents, and then it should be required not only nutrition education for children, but also the activities to enlighten parent's perception in order to enable children to acquire desirable eating habits. Though parents would try to decrease the intake of instant food on account of its unbalanced nutrition or the additive, its in-expensiveness and tastefulness prevents them from thoroughly excluding it at menu. Then we must seek for the way to make good use of instant foods rather than keep away from them blindly. Government must establish and reorganize the corresponding institutions and regulation for food security and provide people public information services through mass media or related agencies, so as to improve children's nutrition ingestion and people's health.
