Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) has attracted considerable attention for various application such as sencer, actuators and transducers due to its excellent ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties in both bulk and film forms. Aerosol deposition process is a novel deposition technique for the fabrication of ceramic films having high density. In can produce crack-free, dense thin and thick films ranging in thickness between sub-micrometer and several hundreds of micrometer in a short time. It used solid particles as raw materials and formation was achieved by collision of particles onto a substrate at room temperature. The starting PZT powders with prepared by solid state reaction method. PZT thick film with 10㎛ thickness and high density were fabricated by aerosol deposition process. However, PZT thick film with thickness above 20 ㎛ is likely to be detached from the substrate by high intrinsic stress and extrinsic thermal stress during post-annealing of the film. Crack-free, PZT films with a thickness range of 20~100㎛ were deposited on silicon substrate by aerosol deposition process using a powder containing 5~12 wt% of organic species prepared by sol-gel route. The as-deposited films were annealed at 700oC for 5 min by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) to improve the electrical properties. No delaminations or cracks were observed in the annealed film, even for a 100 ㎛-thick film. The organic species was evaporated during the post-annealing process and generated nano-sized pores which seemed to alleviate the residual compressive stress. Furthermore, a high deposition rate of about 3.3 ㎛/s was achieved on the film area of 5 X 12 mm2due to the incorporation of organic residue.
