The purpose of this study was to investigate the reality of dating violence and to reveal relationships of dating violence, anger, and control of anger when Korean men and women date their partners. Participants in this research were 543 adults (219 males and 324 females) who enrolled in several SDA Language Institutes and lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The researcher adopted Straus' Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS), Novaco Anger Scale (NAS), State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI), and background questionnaire as instruments for the research. All data was analyzed by SPSS 13.0 Windows. Major analysis methods were the cross-tabulation analysis (X2 test), t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's product moment correlation. The main results of the analysis were as follows: 1. No significant difference was found in the total offense score of dating violence (CTS) between males and females. Some differences were found in the total victim score of dating violence (CTS) across genders. The survey results that women tend to experience more dating violence than men. 2. No significant difference was found in both victim and offense score of dating violence (CTS) across religions. 3. The scores of trait-anger (STAXI) and anger in behavior and arousal subscale (NAS) were higher among men who have offended their partners before than men who have never offended. Women who have been offenders of dating violence demonstrated higher scores of trait-anger, anger expression (STAXI), and anger in cognition and behavior sub-scale (NAS) than women who have not offended. 4. The scores of trait-anger (STAXI) and anger in behavior sub-scale( NAS) were higher among men who have been offended by their partners before than men who have never been offended. Women who have been victims of dating violence demonstrated higher scores of trait-anger, anger suppression, anger expression, anger control (STAXI), and anger in cognition, behavior, and arousal sub-scale (NAS) than women who have not been victims. 5. Female offenders showed higher levels of anger in cognition sub-scale (NAS) than male offenders. Female victims showed higher scores of anger suppression (STAXI), anger in cognition and arousal sub-scale (NAS) than male victims. 6. Statistical correlations were found among anger (NAS), control of anger (STAXI), and dating violence (CTS). According to the results, both offenders and victims of dating violence showed high level of anger. The highest level of anger was indicated by female victims and their conditions seemed very serious. These findings suggest that various programs are needed to inform seriousness of dating violence and teach how to control anger and deal with and prevent dating violence. The researcher expects that various counseling and helping centers will be established for female victims to receive counseling and care. In the future studies, not only cross-sectional research but also longitudinal research on dating violence should be carried out to find out causal relations of the dating violence for providing more information and developing intervention programs of dating violence.
