Image intensifier detector(Hamamatsu, Japan model C7336-04)는1.45 megapixel digital CCD camera이며, 12bit A/Dconverter, 약 100mm 의 field-of-view를 가지고, input window는 0.5mm의 얇은 알루미늄 막으로 처리되어 있다.

Previously, a high-resolution micro-CT system has been developed using a flat-panel detector for small animal imaging. Imaging performances of the high-resolution micro-CT system had been evaluated in terms of uniformity, spatial resolution and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) using various quantitative phantoms. In spite of the high performances of the micro-CT, it has not been in great use at research groups and industrial fields owing to its high cost. In order to expand use of the micro-CTs, cost effective micro-CT systems should be developed.
We have developed an image intensifier based micro-CT system with a micro focus x-ray source and an image intensifier detector. The Image intensifier detector (Hamamatsu, Japan model C7336-04) consists of a high resolution, high contrast 4-inch X-ray image intensifier (X-ray II) and a 1.45 megapixel digital CCD camera. The X-ray II has a fixed field-of-view of 100mm diameter and an input window made of thin aluminum which is excellent in x-ray transmission with low level of x-ray scattering. The 2D array detector consists of 1344×1024 elements, and its pixel size is 71㎛×71㎛ with a cesium iodide(CsI) scintillator as an x-ray-to-light converter. Its frame rate is 12Hz. Unlike flat-panel detector, the image intensifier has a pin-cushion distortion. The distortion error is up to 20 pixels (3%) in horizontal direction. Therefore, image distortion correction algorithms are needed to obtain high resolution CT images. The performances of the micro-CT system were evaluated with a water phantom, a contrast phantom and a gold wire phantom. The minimum resolvable contrast is about 14 CT number at the tube voltage of 60kV and the tube current of 300㎂. The spatial resolution of the micro-CT system is higher than 7lp/mm depending on the magnification ratio. Femur images of a SD rat taken with the developed micro-CT system are shown. The performances of two types of micro-CTs, one the image-intensifier based micro-CT and the other the flat-panel detector system has been analyzed and compared in terms of uniformity, signal-to-noise ratio, contrast-to-noise ratio, and spatial resolution under the same experimental conditions.
