The aim of this study was to examine the empirical relationship between the human performance technology and the strategic human resource development. For this, the investigator carried out correlation analysis and regression analysis on the relationship between the performing level of roles of human performance technology practitioners and the maturity of strategic human resource development. The investigator drew out the role and performing level of human performance technology practitioners from the four roles that a human performance technology practicer had to perform in the process of performance improvement activities and the effectiveness of outputs. In order to measure the level of roles of human performance technology practitioners, the investigator used Delphi method and developed a questionnaire, which was appropriate for the domestic business corporations, on the basis of Reengineering the Training Department Assessment Instrument by Rothwell (2007). And as for the test of the maturity of strategic human resource development, the investigator used the check sheet of strategic human resource development maturity which was used by a preceding study (Heo Yeon, 2006). Study findings are as follows: First, the performing level of roles of human performance technology practitioners is correlated with the maturity of strategic human resource development by more than .67. Thus, the performing level of practitioners has significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development. Second, all the four roles of human performance technology practitioners have a positive correlation with the maturity of strategic human resource development. The extent of correlation is 'evaluators > analysts > change managers > intervention specialists' in order. The regression analysis on the relationship between four roles and the maturity of strategic human resource development shows that the roles of evaluator (.45, p<.01) and analyst (.27, p<.05) have significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development. Third, as for the influence of the outputs attained from the four roles of practitioners upon the maturity of strategic human resource development, such outputs as 'model and plans to guide troubleshooting of human performance gaps' and 'process improvement strategies/plans' from analysts; 'written or oral briefings to performers, performers' managers, process owners, or other stakeholders about the results of performance analysis or cause analysis' from intervention specialists; 'effect involvement of stakeholders' from change managers ; and 'human performance improvement evaluation designs and plans', 'reports to management and workers on the outcomes of human performance improvement strategies', 'linkages of human performance improvement interventions to organizational plans, goals and objectives', 'work standards/expectations communicated' , 'linkage of human performance improvement interventions to organizational cultures' from evaluators have significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development. The above outputs have following features: First, the outputs of evaluators' roles have the most significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development; second, the outputs which contain the strategy and plan of concretely presenting the direction of practicing the roles of human performance technology practitioners have significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development; and third, the outputs which communicate with the progress and result of human performance technology practitioners' performance improvement activities have significant influence upon the maturity of strategic human resource development. Based on the above findings, the investigator suggests following studies: First, in-depth studies on the measure of the performing level of roles of human performance technology practitioners in the department of human resource development of business corporations are necessary. Although human performance technology has had influence upon paradigmatic changes which recognize the human resource development, studies on the assessment instrument which measure the performing level of roles of human performance technology practitioners are unsatisfactory for the present. Second, studies on the measure of performing level of strategic human resource development are necessary. The studies about this theme have been concentrated on the characteristics of strategic human resource development so far, but future studies must focus on the instrument which assesses sub-variables that consist of every characteristic of strategic human resource development. Third, studies on the influence of business corporations' scale and category, CEO's leadership style, human resource development department's scale and organization structure, and CLO(Chief Learning Officer)'s leadership style upon the performing level of roles of human performance technology practitioners are necessary in the future.
