This study aimed to reveal differences in gait patterns according to different heel heights(bare feet, 3cm, 7cm, 9cm) in 15 college women. Also this study was intended to suggest basic materials about efficient gait patterns by examining the posture changes in walking according to different heel heights through 3D image analysis which was videotaped by four video cameras. In order to achieve this purpose, 15 college women made a gait test on the force plate with bare foot or 3, 7, and 9 cm shoes. Then the results were analyzed through 3D image analysis and the following conclusion was drawn. 1. For the necessary support time in walking according to different heel heights, the bare feet was longer in support time and shorter in swing time than 3, 7, and 9 cm heels but there was no statistically significant difference. 2. The stride and stride length in walking showed no statistically significant difference according to different heel heights. 3. The X axis of the displacement in the center of gravity in the human body showed a statistically significant difference in the P3 phase. The right and left displacement of X axis was large and tended to be smaller when the heel height was increased. The Y axis of the displacement in the center of gravity in the human body showed no statistically significant difference in the displacement according to different heel heights. The Y axis of the displacement in the center of gravity in the human body showed a statistically significant difference and the displacement tended to be increased in all phases. 4. The velocity in the center of gravity in the human body in walking showed no statistically significant difference according to different heel heights. 5. The lean angle in walling showed no statistically significant difference according to different heel heights but tended to lean the trunk forward. The left hip angle tended to be decreased when the left foot stepped on and off(the stance phase) but be increased when the right foot stepped on and off. On the other hand, the right hip angle tended to be increased when the left foot stepped on and off but be decreased when the right foot stepped on and off. However, there was no statistically significant difference. The knee angle was the largest in the 7 cm heel of the E2 phase of 7 cm right knee angle(167.87°) and was the smallest in the E2 phase of 3cm left knee angle(162.03°). However, there was no statistically significant difference. The right and left ankle angles showed statistically significant difference. While the bare feet showed the smallest angle, the highest heel showed the largest angle. In other words, as a heel became higher, the ankle angle was increased. 6. For the X angle of ground reaction force variable in walking, there was a significant difference in left Fx1 and Fx2. It suggested the unbalance of right and left sides in the restraining period. For the Y angle of ground reaction force variable in walking, there was a significant difference in left Fy1 and Fy2. When the heel height became higher, the ground reaction force was more increased in the propelling period than the restraining period. For the Z angle of ground reaction force variable in walking, there was a significant difference in right Fz1. As the heel height became higher, the force of right Fz1(the restraining period) became increased. As a result of conducting this study, the following suggestions are made for further study. First, this study made a test using bare feet and 3, 7, and 9 cm heels but further study should use more various shoes and conduct electromyogram analysis together. Second, the range of women subject should be extended. By dividing women into obese and normal ones and selecting the appropriate number of subjects, further study should compare and analyze variables to examine sports biomechanical differences in a gait associated with different heel heights.
