This thesis researches on translationese, especially occurring in Korean texts translated from English. The main focus of this thesis, however, is on how translationese appear in the Korean version of the English novel, Pride and Prejudice. So the first half of this thesis is about the general features of translstionese which include its definition, concept, characteristics, and talks surrounding the subject. Translationese should be avoided for the texts to be appropriately understood and there are some positive views on it even though it is generally viewed negatively. Translationese should be distinguished from individual language which is shown in dramaticaly nice and well translated texts and there are also some well translated and well assimilated expressions which deserve good reputation. Translationese means awkward and inappropriate expressions which have not been appropriately translated. It especially refers to linguistically distorted expression which stems from the difference between the source texts and the target texts. The source language influences the target language in a negative fashion. The Korean texts are shown to have traces of English expressions and there are many aspects of this translationese and this thesis deals with syntactically different aspects of Korean and English which are pronouns, passive voice, tense, subjective noun phrases, inanimate subject, verbs, conjunctions and literal translation. This thesis deals with the expressions of the novel, Pride and Prejudice, which can be categorized into translationese. Those expressions are also broken down into 8 categories of pronouns, passive voice, tense, subjective noun phrases, inanimate subject, verbs, conjunctions and literal translations and are suggested different translational strategies of translations for the texts to be better understood. It is desirable that pronouns should be replaced with appropriate nouns or omitted, passive voice should be replaced with active voice, past participle tense, with past tense, heavy subjective noun phrases and inanimate subjects with adverb clauses. Conjunctions should be used to make sure that no redundancy is found and literal expressions should be paraphrased into more meaningful expressions. Translators should be equipped with the fluency of the target language and should not have automatic translating habits. Well studied knowledge about the target language should be more than a necessary qualification to translate appropriately.
